Thinkin of switch from PC to Mac

Well....bit the bullet today, bought 2 IMAC 24"s, parallels, wireless boards and mice, and apple care. Chunk o change:eek::eek: but after reading other places and discussing with my dad and info here we descided to try em out.

Thanks again fellers:beer;:beer;:beer;

Windows is a little misleading for so many reasons. Vista really bombed out in my opinion. I consider all the stuff in there a pain in the arse. XP is a solid platform in my opinion. I'm running Windows 7 Beta right now on my laptop and it is a big improvement over Vista. It's bascially Vista fixed and modified where necc.

Get rid of all the bloat in Vista and it's faster than XP and better. My .02

Oh, and GET APPLECARE, especially if you get a portable.

Bought me 7 logic boards, 2 new keyboards, new trackpad, and two new computers.

Same, just tally a bit lower. Think I went 5 logic boards, one keyboard and two new computers due to Applecare.

Wow! ^^^This doesn't seem to be a very compelling endorsement for Mac. I'm glad I didn't get an extended warranty for my PC, because I would never have used it. Just because you buy an extended warranty to get your broken stuff replaced, doesn't mean that the product is great. '

I don't want to step on anybody's toes that actually knows about computers. I just bought a computer a few years ago, plugged it in, and have successfully used it ever since. Maybe I am missing out because I don't have a Mac? At least I'm ignorant enough that I don't realize what I'm missing.

Thing with portables and me, is that I put these machiens through hell. Goes back and forth to work a few times a week, thrown around in the pack in the truck, exposure to heat/cold... way more abuse than a desktop would ever get put through... then there's the part density. Pack the power of a computer into a little 1" thick piece of plastic, and yeah, something's bound to go wrong.

Most of the logic board replacements were take-it-in, swap-it-out and i'm good to go half an hour later. All at no cost to me.

Had my 2nd iBook for 2 years before the LB crapped out on it. Took it in, swapped out the LB and ordered some other parts that were worn out. Parts came in but they weren't for my rev iBook, so rather than saying "Sorry, hope what you have on there works", they gave me a new computer.

Had this MB for over two years now, replaced kbd/trackpad/top case a few months ago, recently having some issues with bluetooth, but again, it's all still under warranty. It breaks, they fix it.

As I mentioned above, I am NOT very gentle with these machines. I'll take all the problems with my Macs in teh past 10 years than having to deal with the crap windows throws at me at home as well as at work. Nice to come home from a day of beating hell out of my work laptop out of frustration to a computer that just plain works and doesn't crash.

You have to think about the time frame as well. I used to burn out a windows laptop every year or so (Mule knows all about my fun with windows laptops), my logic boards were over the course of 7 years. One of the free computers was a desktop, not a laptop. Liquid cooling sprung a bit of a leak, toasted a proc and PSU; they ordered the parts that then went on backorder and instead of saying "Deal with the wait" they said "How about a new computer?"

Can't argue with that.

My iBook was doing a flight every three weeks, all day/most of the night use while at work, all day use while at home, countless trips in the truck being bounced around, sitting in the heat/cold of the truck, etc, etc. I described my usage habits to the Mac people when my iBook was replaced back in 05/06ish and was told I am classified as a "severe usage" person and am one of the few that will actually utilize the Applecare plan...

Amen to that. Dropped my MacBook a year ago and a new logic board was $750.

I love my Mac and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've never had any issues with it except when I dropped it. I plug in a new camera and don't have to download any software. Our new wireless printer works flawlessly. I can't wait to upgrade in June to a MacBook Pro. Finally!! :D

PC's frustrate me... and don't even get me started on Windows Vista. Mag has also gone through 2 PC laptops since I've gotten this one.

I'm one of Mule's converts to the Mac side of the fence, I'm still learning a few things on what is where but to tell the truth the conversion has been easier and I love this machine. I've toasted many components on my PC Desktop, Company Laptop and personal Laptops in the past. Always had the "extra" warranty and only had it actually pay for the problem once. Applecare doesn't pull that crap. That to me is worth the switch. Oh and the fact that the thing just works

Oh he!! yea!!!! Loving the new Imac's, they boot up in under 30 secs, launch programs, pages, etc 3 times faster than PC. So far (2 weeks so far) I am learning this machine faster than I ever thought.
I did leave our PC's hooked up for a bit to make sure we have things working and know whats what, but haven't even turned mine on for 4 days now, just the Mac, It's just that easy to learn!!!!
Thanks again for the info fellers:beer;:beer;:beer;
