thinkin' 6 for 8...

Hey guys I could use a little imput from those that ride with kids or wife/GF.

I have 2 2006 800X 151s. One is my primary and has the adds that make it the way I like it. The other is a "back up" sled that my GF rides (not a big or strong girl but very fit) and sometimes my kids (10 &12) ride. The "back up" sled is fast and every bit capable of keeping up with my primary. Very nice sled and I'm a maintainace freak... Not one time on the hook back to the truck this year... knock on wood. :D

I noticed though that the GF get tired sooner than she did last year on a 550 fan REV. I worry my kids will lose control and pin the throttle (or worse, grap the lefty when they want the brake) even though they are great motox kids and have no issues / fears about riding anything.

So here's where you come in. Do you have a 600 SDI and a smaller person riding it? Does it keep up and have a good record of not breaking down? What track length is too long for that sled? We're in Idaho and powder is the thing we like but nothing too crazy when they are with me.

Do you think its worth it to sell or trade one of my 800s or a 600? If so what year should I be looking for?

Thanks for the opinions in advance.

Polaris rider ourselves, but my wife was getting tired when she went from a '03 600 to a 700, had a friend who owned a '06 600 144 SDI Doo, this really eliminated the problem of her getting tired, and she had a blast riding it until it got totaled. My two cents worth, it would be very worth a trade if you really want them to stay interested.

Get an SDI version for sure. way less smoke which she will like and way better fuel and oil consumption. A lot easier to handle for a smaller person. Every sledder needs at least 2 backup sleds if they are riding doo so just go out and buy one.

I would think unless you ride places where the 800 power is really needed, the 600 might be funner and safer for your family. At the very least I would get rid of the Lefty, those things are dangerous! I've seen and heard of more accidents caused by grabbing the throttle instead of the brake than any other accident...plus they really aren't necessary IMO.

Look at the 600 E-Tec

I just snow checked the wife a new XP Summit X 154" with the 600 E-Tec motor.

A friend of mine back in MN says the thing burns so clean some dealers will fire them right up in the showroom and let them run, and at 120 HP it has plenty of power to keep up.

The fuel mileage for midwest trail riders is hitting around 25 miles per gallon, and they are predicting Western powder riders will see in the high teens. You also only need to fill it with oil once per season.

Many people may think this is a brand new technology and shy away from it for the first few years, but in reality it is not. It's based on the same technology as the Evinrude outboard motors which are awseome motors, just ask anyone who owns one.

Ski Doo put this motor in the TNT last year and many of these motors have well over 3000 miles on them from midwest trail riders, with little to no problems.

Along with the years of testing and research on this motor, I feel confident it will be a Winner and had no problems snow checking the 154" for the wife. I'm hoping she likes it, and if she doesn't, I'll give my 06 X 151" a rest once in a while and I'll ride the E-Tec :D

This IS the future of 2 stroke, check it out :)

I agree with idahomike on the E-Tec , but the seat on the new XP is much wider than on earlier models. My wife , all of 5'2" , didn't feel comfortable on the XP as on the '06 SDI 144"

the seat on the 06 is a thrown! real nice on the tush tho.

but dont worry sledhauler, a 6 will be enough for your GF and kids. i'm 5'11 175lbs, so not huge but not a kid, and i can keep right up with my buddies and their 8s, it wont beat them, but it sounds like your not into that when you ride with your kids anyways. also gas mileage is awesome, and the a blast to ride. I have a 144 under mine and it is great in most conditions.

thanks guys. those are all great points. i know for sure I would win the BF of the year award if i brought home a new XP !!! but there is NO way she get a brand new sled while I ride an 06... haha

I think you're right about the lefty on that sled. I may keep the one on mine but I don't use it very often and it did try to stick on me a couple times... interesting note is it mostly sticks on really cold days in the deep pow and normally when I'm using the thumb side... weird huh?

So to that end... if you hear of someone looking to move up from an SDI 144" in great shape w/o a million miles, send them my way.

Any other thoughts are welcome.

hahaha ya man that's her... I told her what you said and she said, " I love that guy."

funny thing is she makes tons of her own money and constantly buys me big ticket items... it was weird at first but I think I'm getting used to it. :D Maybe she will suprise me with a new XP. j/k

If thats your girlfriend in your icon pic.....I'd buy her what ever she wanted:D

That's what I was thinkin too. Maybe get her 1 of each, and let her decide what she likes better. You can have her leftovers. :D A girl who looks like that, and likes to snowmobile? You have a better chance of winning the lotery than finding another girl like that.

all right now...

come on fellas this is a "family" website. You wanna see the good stuff you have to sign in and get out your credit card. hahah j/k

Ya she is pretty cool. Loves to sled!! loves it! never gives me any crap about going riding (dirt or snow) and goes anytime she gets a chance. Add to that she is the nicest person you will ever meet, has a career with her own money, drives a BMW M4, cooks like she owns a restraunt, and thinks I walk on water and you have a pretty good package... if you go for that sort of thing anyway. haha

She changed her hair to dark for the winter. Looks like her naughty cousin (most won't get the bewitched reference) which is fun, but is going back to bleach for our 2 weeks in Hawaii later this month. That's were that shot was taken last year... so maybe next year I'll have a new avatar shot. G rated of course.

Takes to much work to load tiny pics on this site so you guys are out of luck on the additional shots. Too bad for you cause the "santa's little helper" shots are hot!! 76FOMOCO and RMKSWIN met her (and rode with her) so they can vouch for me on the "real thing." :D

cya, Hauler

I got to admit, a hottie who loves to sled, makes bank, and treats you the way you claim she does is hard to beat. But, can she ride? A good friend of mines wife rides an '08 800 X- XP 146 with after market performance parts and just kills it. Honestly, like she stole it. Due to her size, 5'3" and 110 wet, she can and does get highmark regularly. And to boot, she works on her own sled doing maintenance or adding extras. She truly shares the passion of mountain riding and will drop anything for an epic pow day, well usually. Check her out, her name is "Theripper"
