Think i lost a piston, opinions

I have a 2012 pro with single pipe, can and clutching. previous owner also had a fix kit installed. Third ride on the sled it was giving me det code so i restarted it a couple times to get back to the road. on the way back is when i think i damaged a piston. shut it off and it was rough right before it killed. pulled on it to see if it was still free and it wasnt but it did break free when i took off my belt to get towed. what do you think was causing it to det? no fuel controller? are fix kits unreliable? Pulled plugs when i got home and can side looks kind of a silver color and there is no coolant in the reservoir. it did have coolant when i shut it off. opinions please!

Take both your plugs out and pull it over. See if you have any coolant coming out of the spark plug holes. Kinda strange that you couldn't pull it over until you took belt off. if your plug looked silver as in metallic then you probably lost something in the motor. Just pull the head and take a look. You'll know pretty quick

silver silver or silver white? if silver white ish your engine leaned out and fried a pistone. and siezed up. look at the boot intakes or crank seals. air is coming in somwhwere. ur det was coming on because if it leaned out the temp in the cylinder got so hot that the mixture got hot enough to prematurely explode.

Whatever you decide, you need to get into that engine asap! Check compression, or pull head or exhaust to verify a internal problem.

But if it's leaking coolant into the case, you need to get the crank cleared of coolant quickly!

Getting codes checked from dealer wouldn't be a bad idea also, it may point to a cause of failure.

the plug looked almost the same color as anti seize. ill pull the head off tomorrow and have a look. my main concern is what caused it so i can prevent it from happening again. thanks for the help so far!

piston

Sounds like you busted the skirt of the cylinder and odds are you punched the broke piece through the case when you tried to start it again.

i never tried to start it again. i pulled the head clutch side piston looks fine can side has nothing on it. looks new. no scars on cylinders or head. opinions please

Yes, a clean piston on top likely means you had a coolant leak. Could also be why it was hard to turn over (hydro lock). Check your top end seals to see if you find where it may have leaked. Stock head? Any milky substance on the dome of the clean cylinder? Pics are helpful.

Pull the exhaust or exhaust valves and try to get a good look at the Pistons on the exhaust side. Look for any signs of scoring etc. the silver came from somewhere...

my sleds has bmp pipe and can, clutching, headlight delete and slp intake. do you guys think i need a fuel controller? bmp website says theyre not required with their pipe but a local wrench says hes surprised it runs without one?
