These pistons look normal?

M8, doing preseason check over. No scratches that I can feel, just the discoloration.

Edit, iPad corrected Pistons to is tons in title

Why do you say the clutch side is good and mag side isn't?

Has 1100 miles, and compression is the same on both sides. With Engine cold they both have Just under 120 psi.

Thanks

Your talking warm it up then do compression test?

It has been sitting all summer. I started it and it flooded( I didnt let it idle long enuf when I tried to move it) , I changed the plugs let it idle for a while and pulled on the trailer. So the pistons might look different because of that?

Ran great last year, just doing preseason inspection.

I was curious why the mag side looked bad, just so i know what to look for. Or if the "brown" color below the rings is normal

Thanks

As for your discoloration its normal. I did a top end on my sled with 4,700 miles on original top end. I saw the same thing on my pistons, just some off the exhaust ends up bleeding down the piston. Mine had 125 psi each side. Just replaced for peace of mind. Although your first picture of the pto? Looks like scratching or scoring to me but it is just a pic.

top end should good 3k easy

good comp With that low of miles I would run it, How do the cylinder walls look? But better safe than sorry, I tend to push it.. lol

The pistons don't look scored. Mag side is that way because of blow by from worn rings. Mag side always runs hotter cuz the magneto is producing heat and the pto side has the clutch creating air which is going to help keep it cool as well. Id put a set of rings on both pistons, check the jugs out, run a hone through them. If your ring gap is fine with new rings I wouldnt worry about it.

PTO side is the hot side on any Arctic Cat laydown engine because of the way the pipe wraps. I don't think the stator is creating too much heat.

One thing here is your showing two different pictures of two different pistons but one picture is of the top portion and the other is the mid section do they both look the same top to bottom.
