Thermostat?

Hey TurboAl, Clint here from Calgary... I was at your shop last year, and you mentioned that you can drop in a thermostat right in the head of my 07 REV? If so, which thermostat would I order? Would it be from an 06, seeing the 08's have the inline external thermostat?

I am trying to avoid the crank bearings from seizing, as this is a known problem for the 07's. I am planning on installing a water temp gauge, and thought the thermostat would be a good idea...

Ya 06 thermostat will work.

ck1 the t stat we use in the 07 is the 06 one from doo, throw a temp guage in when doing it, good idea on the 1000 as mentioned above
Hey Al, I was under the impression that you had to do work to the head to drop a 06 t stat into the 07 head....or have I been mis-informed? I will be putting a t stat on this year and it would be great to know if I can just drop in one from an 06.

If your talking about the '07 800R, the '06 thermostat will not drop in. Been looking at doing this for awhile. The stock head's bottom outlet is too small for the stat to even go in, and also the bottom surface does not have the recess for the stat's gasket so the head for sure requires machining. Plus one would need the older style top outlet, larger hose, and an '06 or older Rev coolant bottle because the '07 bottle has too small of an inlet. The coolant wouldnt flow very well when the stat is closed. I think going with the '08+ bypass would be alot easier.

Thanks I am looking into this for a 07 800R. Why would AL have a differant opinion?Does someone have a clear answer?

The 06 thermo does not fit.
Pull the head off, open up the top coolant hole to the same size as the bottom hole and bolt on a 90 degree coolant fitting. Flip the head over and fab up and install a cover plate for the old coolant hole, and reinstall the head.
Go buy an 08 thermostat, and coolant bottle and some of the 08 y fittings.
DO NOT plug off the smaller 3/4" fitting on the thermostat, plumb it in. The engine needs that flow at start up and to balance the flow when hot.

Go to the DooTalk site and look at the pictures there as I don't know how to post the pics on this site.

I've ran the 08 thermostat on my 07 for a year now, no problems.

Will try some pictures.

I purchased a '07 800R this spring & was planning to install a PSI inline thermostat (w/built-in bypass to allow some coolant flow) inline between the reservoir & engine inlet.

i pull the 07 heads off and machine the head to accept the 06 thermostate
is a very easy oporation , takes me 20 min on the mill.
why we didnt do the 08 was they werent available when we started putting the t stat in the 07 heads .
the thing that concerns me about the 08 t stat on the 07 is the location , it did distort on some 08's we saw that had gotten very hot on the trail and was sticking the t stat on these 08s , 2 actually in the spring .
doing either is better than not one at all in our conditions.

this proably isnt necessary if you oporate your sled in tight snow or low snow conditions .is mostly effected in long deep snow running, like we have here most of the season.

Thanks Al, By the way if any of you have had the opertunity to speak with Al.What a great helpfull guy, You dont run into these types often, He helped me with these issues without attempting to sell me anything and helped me avoid the "dreaded "shipping to Canada for such a small mod, Talked me through the whole process. Thanks again!

I just put a T-stat on my RT 1000, I found a 3/4" hose at carquest that has a couple bends in it that made it real nice to install.
Here are the parts I used:
08 T-Stat 509000499
08 T Fitting 509000372
Carquest hose 18867
3/4" cap HELP products 02252

The 3/4" hose will be cut to get the correct combination of bends, keeps it neat and tight.

Here are some pictures.

Can anyone tell me what size bypass to install around the thermostat? and will the 07 plastic bottle take 180 deg. . also what temp. thermostat is best for this installation? I have a BMP head and this addition of a thermostat is a breeze!! thanks
