Thermostat and Intake on 09 YZ450

So I finally found some solutions and wanted to share what worked for me on the forum. 2009 YZ450. I gutted the airbox, cut out the bottom so any snow would fall out and then fitted a silicone 45 deg. boot and a Boondockers pod filter. Also used some material from an old pair of snowpants to sew up a carb bag. Combined with the KTM thermostat, the thing finally gets some heat, no snow in the box and no carb icing!

I used some ABS 1/8 plastic to make a shield, attaching to the bike frame and the front tube of the Mtn. Horse chassis. This keeps some of the track thrown snow off the back of the carb.

So far works great! Oil was clean with no water and it uses a ton less fuel now the carb is not icing and the intake clear of snow.

Help!

Hey,

I have an 09' WR450f with the Explorer track kit, and I have had a tough time getting it to run right in the winter. Would you be willing to elaborate on the thermostat issue and fix you came up with? I have had the carb icing issue and I will try the snowpants method :) The biggest issue Ive had is snow in the intake and I think my prefilter was causing it to run rich. I put frog skin on the airbox opening but idk if that will really help with the lack of air... I would really appreciate it if you could take a few pictures of the airbox mod you did and the 45 degree coupler/pod filter. Thanks!!
