The Ultimate Snow Truck

I recently modified one of our trucks with mattracks to use when the snow is not deep enough for the snow cats. It actually does quite well but does not have the capabilities of a snowmobile or snow cat. Our home is remote and we must use snowmobiles, snow cats or now the truck to access it in the winter. The mattracks are faster than the snow cats with a max speed of about 40mph. The snow cats can go through much deeper and steeper snow.

If it were a Chevy, the owner would be claiming 20 mpg also!

It initially appears the Ford V10 went from 10mpg to about 5mpg with these claws. Snow conditions will determine the mpg. The tracks reduce the overall gearing by about 1/3. When the speedo says 60mph you are doing about 40mph. They will really screw up your odometer miles but I would say that the wear and tear on the p/u from running the tracks reflect the higher miles registered.

I am sure if it was a Chevy or Dodge the mpg would double with the tracks.:D

Im trying to rember what I was told about mattracks? They are used on the slope alot. Im thinking it was that they had to carry a spare as they jumped track and it was not an infield repair? I'll have to ask again. I was looking at them for trucks for fighting tundra fires and I decided that it was not a viable option.
They do have there place and they look very cool. Have fun!

..Never heard of 'em throwin a track. The park rangers have burbs using them. & the park also uses matts on their ambulances. Good 'nuff fer me.

How long does it take to swap over to these tracks and back to wheels?

The initial install will take about 4 to 6 hours. To switch between wheels and tracks I would plan about 30 minutes per wheel. I might be slower than some of you as I have several years age on most of you.

Blk88GT How deep of snow will it actually go through?
Snow conditions and type of snow will determine the total depth ability. In basic powder it should handle 24 to 32 inches if their is a solid base of some type underneath without any problems. I would worry about stuffing the radiator/air intake full if deeper than that and possibly overheating. If you are breaking through a crust into sugar type snow it will take much more power. On wind blown hard pack it seems to only sink in about 4 inches which would be similar to groomed trails. If I pack one trip with the snow cat it does very well on 4+ foot packed trails as long as I stay on the cat tracks.

I doubt the newer style will ever untrack with proper maintenance unless a catastrophic failure occurs. The newer style mattracks are much improved over the ones that are 5 or more years old. They do cost plenty.

Those are sweet!! I would love to put a set on my Samuari

The mattracks RTV/UTV track sets work good on the Geo Tracker and Samuari 4X4 (lightweights) and cost much less than the ones on my F250. If you are interested let me know and I can get you set up....:D
