The trucking industry.....How's it affecting the owners?

OK, we are getting bombarded by the election stuff here, right? Let's change gears for a moment.
I am a trucking/freight broker and my bottom line is suffering like all others out there, as there is not enough money to pay to the carrier or me.

Just wondering what YOU carriers are doing to offset fuel, tires, insurance, maintenance, etc.

Fuel surcharges for the most part are a joke, IMO. The bottom line is dollar per mile. Surcharges average 12-54%, across the board, WTF!!!

I for one take care of my carriers BEFORE me, but holy he!!, why in the Fu** can't shippers and recievers realize this when they set the rates?

I know the whole Swift, Central Ref, JB Hunt, May Tr, Cr England, etc, azzhats control the "CHEAP" market, but come on. I am sick and tired of competing with these folks.

well heres the deal .....a trip outa Edmonton pays me 4680 for a train ....100 bucks tarpin and 28 % fuel surcharge ....which is 1300 Hun

shes 2000 miles there and back ...with a 1700 dollar back haul outa John .....with Lumber from Canfor ..to Edmomchuck

so for a rounder ..I get 7,780

now I do 4 of them a month ......and my truck gobbles up up ...about 9 grand in fuel cuz the ole 625 Kitty is pretty hungry ....soooo 7780 x 4 = 31,290 per month

gettin the pic ......my new motto is this ........... "I just fooked the last guy ...so I could pass the savings on to you "......................any questions ???

Haha, I hear ya H2. The price IS passed on to the consumer, or the sucker ya got to pay it. I hear rates for van freight out of Ut to Ga ranging from $2700-$4900 USD for a 1886 mile run. What a price range huh?

And for the record, my brokerage fees run close to 7%, vs. the industry standard of 12-15%. Carriers do the job at the end of the day PERIOD, thus having repeat carriers. I sit in front of a computer screen and phone, how fun is that, but a job is a job.
