The race fuel scam

you kidding right? you run E85 in a fuel injected turbo sled and you can go ahead bend over and brace yourself because the bill for a new motor is going to hurt that bad

I have a buddy running E85 in his 2001 Corvette with a Lingenfelter smallblock 427.

He makes about 60 more HP on the E85. Obviously there is a calibration change in the fuel and timing maps but it is safe and makes HP if set up correctly.

maybe so but still that is in a car. if your runnig 12+ lbs of boost in a 2 stroke turbo you have to have a min octane level of 112, E85 doesnt come even close to those standards.

Why do you say that?

Curious because I have heard of many guys doing that. IRL uses all Ethanol, for their race fuel. It has less energy but you are really using it for detonation control right? It has a higher octane.

Edit.. if you need 112 octane E85 will not do it, but if you need 104, you are set.

100% ethanol is 113 octane.

113(.85)+ 85(.15) = 108.8 octane (assuming they are blending the other 15% with 85 octane)

use E85
E85 has an octane rating of 100 - 105
I have been useing it in my 4-wheeler for a year with no problems, all I did was go 20% bigger on my main jet.
A lot of people said it would destroy my carb, but I have not had any problems & it is cheap:D

To do it rite, your idle and mid range need to be corrected. Chances are, your ATV is a little lean in those area's rite now using E85. Make it rite and there's a world of difference.
If you use your machine frequently you won't have any problems with your carb. But leave it sit long enough so moisture gits in, it'll get real nasty.
Most plastics are fine with it. But some rubber can literally crumble from it.
Myself, I wouldn't use it in place of race fuel either. If I could blend my own to insure 85%, then maybe. Chances are, your pump E85 is only 70% or even 65%.

and that right there is why people run race or AVgas, there are actual standars for making it. you know 100ll is good stuff, because airplanes cant just break down on you.
