"The primary virtue of snowmobiling is that it's ludicrously easy"

I got this from the "Post a message" section in the article. What an idiot! Some people just do not have a clue.

The only part missing from this snowmobile piece is the danger posed by avalanche. "Machine" riders are shockingly indifferent to this common danger that backcountry skiers spend hours & dollars preparing for. Check out the Colorado Avalanche Information Center & click on "Accidents" to see all the num-nuts who kick off deadly slides due to high-marking.

On a snowmobiling website I once did a search for the term 'avalanche.' All that came up were ads for Chevys.

I have been told many times at work that snowmobiling was easy because all you do is ride a machine. I have taken these people on rides and they now have a greater appreciation of what I call the "snow olympics". The first time they get stuck, I let them flounder alittle, you know, to get the full effect of thin air and physical work. The next day, most of them come in so sore, they are useless. I have half a notion to email Mr. Curtis (bryancurtis77@gmail.com) and invite him on a ride.
That's funny, avys and avy awareness are one of the biggest topics here on SW during the snow season. Can we say "blind leading the blind?"

Nope.....Butt Steering is when your dog drags his azz on the carpet, all around the living room. Some breeds handle better than others........:D

So if I'm reading you right.... 1 of my 2 dogs has been practicing to go riding with me??

Silly me I keep trying to discourage him from sledding..... I told him sledding was to easy and he should stay at home....???? :face-icon-small-dis

I still have a hard time considering riding with anyone who " Butt Steers " But if I have to..... My Dog will be the first one!!

:D:beer;

Mr. Curtis,
I can't even begin to tell you how shallow the research was for your article...which appropriately led to the shallowness of your writing. I would recommend that before you write another article incorrectly stereotyping a sport enjoyed by thousands across the nation you take the time to do what true journalists are supposed to do...research. As an example, if your article was the only basis from which to draw my perception of journalism, I, too, would conclude that journalists' "social and aerobic obligations were minimal." If you would like a differing perspective of the sport of snowmobiling, I would be happy to oblige.

ha ha... funny stuff...

I had my sister out here last year. She has been snowmobiling lots of times back in the midwest and riding sleds isn't new to her. Took her up in the mountains during a 2 ft powder day and she was blown away. She had no idea what mountain riding was like (even though I told her lots and lots and lots of times...:D), nor how difficult it is even when you aren't digging out a sled.

Seems the only way to actually realize what it takes to ride out here is to do it, to get off trail and to go play... otherwise words don't really grasp the full amount of energy needed to ride...
