The Polaris 900

Out of curiousity, should these new dragon 800's run alot better than the 900 they had a couple years ago?

I'm sure Polaris is counting on it!!! The 800's have been good motors, I don't think you'll find the same crap happening as with the 900's. Polaris can't survive another flop like that so soon.

Depends. Out of the box, yes, the new Dragon RMK should be right there with the 900 on the hills and an all-around much better sled. Against a well set-up 900... Those torquey 900s can really rip when set up right.

never had a problem with my 900! runs perfect and always have!
rode the 700 the other day and holy **** does it feel lighter!!! so i would assume the 800 is pretty close in weight.
if i had the choice i would move to the 800 dragon stock compared to my 900 with the mods ive done to it already. imo

I think you'd be pleased with the 800 Dragon.

Polaris did their homework on these from what I understand. Every manufacturer has their issues at some point. My wife has 98 RMK 700 that is rock solid reliable and has never let us down and I ride a new dealer holdover 05 RMK 900 that I am totally in love with. Once you get the recall and updated work done on these sleds, ( the 9's), they are bulletproof and will climb the little trees sticking out of the cliffs and take you absolutely anywhere you can imagine and even some places you probably shouldn't be. It's kinda like an 8 second rodeo ride, if you've got the guts it will take you to the glory. Or even if its just busting 6 feet of powder in a mountain meadow, it's all good no matter what!

Good luck and have fun! :)

I agree with "Pooslinger," I am a die hard doo fan but my uncle has an 06 900 159" rmk and really it is out of the box. Him and I put that slp air box and can on and that is it, never been touched otherwise. His sled rips! Never had any issues (knock on wood). My rev has a much higher "fun factor" rating in my opinion, but when it comes to climbs I may as well stick with the jumps. As for the 800 dragon, yet to see on of these mysterious creatures on the hill.

900-800

I rode A 900 159 last year with the slp pipe head reeds airbox mod re-maping it was fast but the stock 800 163 that I have this year is extremely close across the lakes and far ahead on the hills compared to the 900 modded up and will eat a STOCK 900 in both areas and yes this is from actually doing it
not just my opinion

Stock for stock the new 800 should be ahead of the 900, if it isn't than Poo will have some problem's on there hands. The 900 was alright but for how much hype was around it it faultered badly.

The biggest thing is that the raw chassis is 100 times better than the original IQ chassis. It would have been cool to see a well set-up 900 in the raw chassis like it was suppose to be in 07 but never made it RIP 900 Dragon.

That's what I want to know? The tunnel is about all that's really different. About the only problem with the 900 is the weight. Now I haven't set my 9 sibe by side with the new 8, but from what my friends and parents say, is it rips up a mountain a lot quicker than the other sleds around, and there have been some 800's around when they've told me that. I would like to line up next to one, but honestly, I think I might get embarrassed, even if I was ahead, because looking at their stats, they should be a lot better, 4hp and about 70 lbs makes a big difference. I think the 9's have there place though. Lots of torque. And it's easy to drop 50 lbs off of the 900 with a pipe and intake and radiator removal plus all the bs that doesn't need to be there. Another problem with the 900 is gearing. I put on smaller drivers for the 174" and that regeared it to a 2.21:1 ratio which helped as much as the pipe, imho. But the way it pulls, I have a hard time believing that a 800 could do better, but everyone seems to like their own stuff anyways. :beer;

Depends on what 800 and what 900 you're comparing.

Stock for stock, yes, until the 800 squeaks a piston.

Mod for Mod, who knows?

Light mod for light mod, they're probably about equal in most respects .... The 800 will be lighter and more nimble but the 900 packs more of a punch.

I dunno, IMO unless you're a crack sled tuner stay away from the 900's. I found that out the hard way ..

You can make the 900's pretty radical sleds, it just takes some time and money ...

Nah, just don't dick around with 'em too much. Fix what needs fixing on it and ride the snot out of the 900.

I've got 2000+mi on mine without any significant problems that I haven't in some way induced.

My 900 has treated me pretty good also. All of the terrible ones must be extinct by now. haha. It is heavy so I would give the 800 the title for over all ridabilty.

I liked my 05 900 back when i had one. Although i did through alot of money at it to perform with the other sleds at the time. i never believed they had engine problems cause mine ran so good. But when i sold mine it took the crank out the next season, And I have a buddy who bought one last year that didnt even get one ride on it when the crank went. Now I'm starting to wonder. i think the 900 is good cheep sled. I believe it is outdated now but would be a good sled for someone wanting something to step up from say a 97 RMK or something. But then you could get an M7 for the same price and just pull and go.

kinda funny how they were/still are the plauge and now someone asks how it will run up against a newer 10k machine and look at the responses! Truth is I would rather ride the new chassis...but as for who puts the highmark the 900 is tuff to beat if its setup correctly and modded. As for stock 900 and dont know anyone that rides one stock:beer;

the raw chassis has different, ski's, spindles, front cooler, (dragon has no front tunnel cooler), tunnel, rails, two wheels on the rear axle instead of the 4, no radiator in the front, different steering post, different tank seat combo, different front bumper (probably the best difference on the 09 anyways). i'm sure there are some i forgot... comparing the 05 iq 900 to the 09 iq raw rmk 800

Super Dave i was also talking how when the new raws came out every one was talking how good they were and going to be. now look whats going on with the d8s and polaris is not fixing them at this point and may never.

Yes and no, No because of the recall and all of the parts that had to be installed after the fact. Yes becasue 900 have more torque then the 800, rode an 05 166 900 for 100 miles and I could smoke any 800 on the snow this season, weight is a huge drawback compared to the new sleds
