Tahoe Forecasted to Receive Nearly 100 Inches of Snow This Week

January 2021 skiing in California has been… bad, to say the least. Multiple sunny, 50F+ days have rotted away any snow that they have gotten. However, things are finally starting to look up for the Golden State, with a “superstorm” snow event on the way.

The storm is forecasted to drop almost 100 inches at many resorts in the next 7 days.

Kirkwood in South Lake Tahoe is favored to get the most snow.
The mean forecast SWE total is about 6.5 inches or about 80 inches of snow. Other resorts, like Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Mammoth are all forecasted to get more than 60 inches of snowfall just in the next week.

Areas north of Lake Tahoe, near the Sierra Buttes, are forecasted to get more than 9 inches of precipitation accumulation, which translates to about 110 inches of snowfall!

The 7-10 day forecasts look promising, as well. OpenSnow.com shows promising snowfall continuing into February. Fingers crossed for big precipitation this week!

The forecast looks promising for storminess into February.

Is that an area you ride
I go to mammoth lakes six hours away from Los Angeles and Sequoia forest ... about 3 hours away. mammoth is suppose to get 6 to 10 feet up high and 3-5 feet dow n low this week. The only problem is state governor prohibits staying in a hotel !!!!

here are sno-parks in California ,,, Can park a trailer there for 5 dyas ... self contained or any trailer but typically just a parking lot with direct access to groomed trails ... unless it says no snowmobiling on the website. https://dl-mail.ymail.com/ws/downlo...E_BjE6bNNhUe2cQyRZQJAmrsaXYsR4RvwvgV3QYEmzl84
that link is not valid. and the snow park locations map has been removed from the website.

Used the wayback machine to get it, also mammoth lakes parking area say's no snowmobiling.

WOW - NICE!!! I might be just a little tiny bit jealous of the snowfall you are about to get :)
Ive been in Cali since 1982. Since more misses than hits when it comes to storms. But when storms hit millions of DUMB people try to go see the snow. Ive been stuck in traffic for 8 plus hours because people have no clue how to drive on snow / ice and get into trouble. To enhance my point large fires here people will drive up to a fire and stand with there back to flames 20 feet into the air and take pictures.

When these large storms hit you already have to be at the trailhead because the roads will shut down because of the millions of non snowmobilers trying to go see the deep snow.

So for me Im waiting at least a week (since I have to drive 4 plus hours) to go to the snow because most snowmobile access areas will be bombarded with no snowmobilers who park so close you cant get sled back to truck / trailer. There are snowmobile trails in Los Angeles County BUT the non snowmobilers will be parked 6 cars deep a couple feet from each other and you cannot get sled to the trail head.
