The Most Reliable Sled

I have a pair of 00 700 rmk's. Both still have the factory accs on them. One has 4500 on it other around 3500 on them. Gas, oil and go, did I mention they weigh less than your average 4 stroke.

You can never compare a sled to a car..
How gets into the car, slams it into reverse hammers the throttle to the floors, flips it into forward, hammers the throttle again and keeps it there, over the curb, does a few donuts.. turns off the key @ half throttle when coming to a stop...

ohhh and for a reliable sled...

my 07 Polaris 144 has 7022 KM on it and the only thing that has been done is taking the valves out for 1 cleaning at the beginning of this season. (5340 KM)

Funny how things work... 2 yrs ago I got myself for V-day a new sled.. made my wife dinner...

this year ...the new Triton is being delivered today at 2.. ****.. I gotta make dinner tonight.

the only reliable sled is the one in the window.

once it's out of the window it becomes unreliable.

as far as comparing to any other vehicle , compare them under the same conditions.

cold start turn 8 gand on the motor, do crash test dumbies into trees, roll em down a 1000 hill in extreme cold conditions. pound em down the road with 1-4 foot kelly humps.

Ok now thats enough , Now tell me how would any other vehicle stand up to a sled.

I am going to say the m7 is got to be ranked pretty high i know alot of people that ride these with no issues.

^^^ x2

Beat me to it, I think most all sleds (save a few bad apples) are very reliable under "normal" riding conditions (?)whatever that may be. Think about what most of us ask of our sled; light as possible, as much power as we can reasonably squeeze out of it, hold up to the abuse we put them through, don't blow belts, get better gas mileage........and....and....Now go get a pick-up off the lot ask the same of it and see how well it holds up, maybe....maybe not. Personaly I'm thankful we have the sleds we have today , getting us further into the backcountry.

'06 M7 third season, had twins- took twins off, changed plugs once, changed belt once, add oil every other ride and go :face-icon-small-ton

Exactly my thoughs, really depends on how you treat them... I know my buddy says he rides things hard, HECK NO! thing looks new, warms it up so much damn near overheats it. he babies the things, Pull, WOT, hit stuff, cartwheel down the mountain. roll it over to get unstuck....

I drop more weight out of my sleds by smashing them into stuff then any other mods i have done!

In reality, they are amazingly durable.

i am a flatlander and put most miles on in the U.P but i have over 5000 on my 500ss tnt and it has never let me down.I ride it like a snox sled too.it is a very solid machine, my local dealer kinda knows how i ride and they wouldn't sell me a tnt because they thought i would break it in half.

The old 670's I think! Know of many of them with over 10,000 miles on them, stock crank atleast. Buddy had one that made well over 150 hp, pipes, ported, etc, that sled is still running with 7,000 miles on it with the 150 tune in it(got rings last year), and another 4,000 before that.

I'd agree, I had about 5000 miles on mine and ran the chassis into the ground,,,but the 98X 670 engine just kept ripping it up!

The elan would beat anything now hands down.

Pull sleds of 1,000 lbs or more for years.
Run on bare tundra for miles and years.
Run with willow as piston rings.
Be dunked in river many times and still start everytime.
Run on gas that had as much water as gas.

I would have to say any sled made by Yamaha. We have a Apex, Vector, several old Phazers and a couple Mointain Maxs'. All are great sleds with no problems.:)

not true:D. I had a hooper engine in my 91 exciter, and it put out 147 hp and that was dead reliable. I put 7000 miles:eek: on that with not so much as 1 glitch. and in its day it was king of the hill..John hooper knew what he was doing!:beer;:beer;:beer;

94 Skidoo STX 583, 10,000 miles, maybe 3 belts, set of skis and 2 pairs of hyfax, that's it. Son's girlfriend rides it now and it will still embarrass a few 700's, lost 1# of compression through all those miles running on Injex.

In your opinion, what's the most reliable sled?
If you compare snowmobiles to other vehicles, seems like they're always breaking down.
There are constantly posts on this forum about 'issues with my sled'. Even brand new ones.... Anyone own a sled that has no issues?

Definitely NOT a Doo 800! Once I get mine rebuilt (no mods unless you call a can a mod), I'm gonna finish the season, sell it and then keep my eyes open for an M8...
