The 6.4 with a Spartan =WOW

Ok stock I hate the 6.4 lag-sucks diesel like a semi truck is is a clean motor with the filter but I just hated the truck it was not fun to drive.

So after the 275 I am at a honest 21MPG on a 75MPH run on the hiway. About 18 mixed driving it pretty easy. Enclosed trailer about 12-14 and that is moving right along. All MPG are with cold -deg temps and winter fuel and some warm up in the mornings on the mixed driving.

But WoW when it comes to power this thing flat hauls the mail it does smoke allot when you get on it but there is very little lag and it feels like your driving a sportscar no more waiting for the turbo to spool at the stoplight with the trailer.

We did have a small problem and had to send the setup back and made for a trip to the dealer because of a faulty screen in the tunner when I first got it but Spartan took care of us not as fast as I would liked but the performance has made up for the issue.

I have not drove a new tunned up 6.7 but if I could order a new truck it would be Ford 6.4 Motor with Spartan with the new tranny that Ford has.

we have 4 fords with the spartan on them. they are the best tuner out there. if you are going to tow with it make sure you put on the extra deep trans pan. and use the 210 tow tune to pull with or you'll start having troubles. other than that they are AWESOME.

I told you this a long time ago! Ridiculous a stock truck with a tuner can run like these!
80k now on mine. I pull on the 275 setting up to about 10,000 lbs, then drop down in power over that.
Justin, find out what version 275 you have. If you don't have the V3 get it and stop running the version 4 if you are.

i have the Spartan with 5" Straight pipe and S&B Intake and WOW is right. I only have to stop and fill up twice when we go to revy used to have to fill up 4 times. It is worth the money that is for sure.

no need in a suncoast....plenty of people on thedieselgarage with over 70K miles on spartan tuned 6.4Ls. I had a Spartan 275 on my 08 and loved it. By far the strongest running diesel I have ever owned. Even with the tuner best fuel mileage I ever got with truck was 18mpg 60-65mph. The 6.4L makes huge power but by far the worse fuel economy diesel I have ever owned. I got about 13-14mpg at 75mph with a sled in the bed. I have a drop in AFE green filter that is less then 3 months old if interested PM me

Hope you are saving up for a Suncoast. Its coming.

Do you have over 80k miles on your trucks? If so has all of it been tuned and have you pulled 28,000lbs frequently behind it while tuned?
Just curious if you have the experience to tell me what this transmission will hold or not, that's all.

I agree the spartan setup is pretty deadly. I really liked the setup on my 2008. I ended up with onging issues with the truck including a calved injection pump, so I dumped the truck and bought a Dodge. Just for the maintenance costs....miss the ford though.

I tow on the 275 unless it's a large 5th wheel load then I back it down to the 210Tow.

I think it's how you treat the truck with the 275 I am on the throttle much less than I was stock so it's all in how you drive it and how hard you push them.

Spartan tuning makes me wish I bought a Ford. But to think you can run 275 rwhp over stock and have everything hold together is wishful thinking. I do have experience with the 5R110, just not in my own truck. YMMV

So is it wishful thinking it will hold together to 10k? Or 50k? Or maybe 100k? Or are we talking long term hundreds of thousands of miles?

From what I have experienced, this transmission has outlasted both my 48re and my G56 in my Dodges by 40,000 miles. So at that rate if it let's go tomorrow I have saved on average $3500 over my Dodges. Suncoast still would not be in the works as a torque converter and valve body I am sure will do what most need.

I think it is been proven in the real world that these transmissions can and will hold together with the added power given the programming does what it needs to program the transmission as well. Some people can and will break anything though.
I also think it pisses people off that their Dodge and Gm products cannot duplicate the same..:cheer2:

one of my good buddies on here just rolled over 100k ish and I think most of it has been on the 275 or 310 tunes and it has a 10k trailer that spends a lot of miles behind it. tranny shifts rock solid still. dont try to break them and thye have no troubles holding up.

I know plenty of people, myself included who could probably toast the trannys in an afternoon with stock power. nothing can hold up to idiots..

I guess a better way to put it, would be "prepare for the worst, hope for the best". For sure there are lots of guys that threw on downpipe back exhaust and a big spartan tune and have driven 100k miles. Not every single tranny will grenade. But they can, and some do. Its a chance you take when you add that much power. Credit to Ford though, you won't see the other two holding that kind of power on a stock drivetrain. I wish my Dodge could, but the head would have lifted before that anyway.

Are your mileage figures off the computer or hand calculated? I have the same setup, and with winter fuel/warm ups i am only getting about 14-15mpg empty, even though my computer reads 16-18 mpgs. My computer was almost always fairly accurate before, but now is consistely 2mpg's off. I have only run the smaller tunes, mostly 75 & 125. Been kind of scared to try the bigger ones even though i have heard the tranny can handle it. I agree, with you, in it's all in how you drive it, but i gotta beleive that the when pulling large loads around with an extra 210 hp that it's definately causing alot more wear/tear on the drivetrain. It definately is amazing to see the difference though, i was not real pleased with my 6.4L until i did the spartan.

Dont be scared just crank her up to 250 you will get the best fuel mileage yet!!! Just keep you foot out of it and drive normal and you will be pleased with the 250 tune.

That about what I get in the winter on average as well 14-15. I get 17ish on the freeway. But idle time for warm ups and blended fuel drop the mileage. My lieometer is telling me I am around 23mpg.....that is on the 275.

Hand calculated but when empty I drive with a light foot so I keep it out of the boost if I can.

DITCH the small tunes!!! 275 or go home we pulled the enclosed trailer over the Bozeman pass this weekend with the sleds and almost missed the corner I know it would have pulled into the tripple digit range this thing is almost scary we held it WOT on 275 trying to see if the EGT's would get to high and they never did. It's just amazing the head wind was bad trailer was like big sail and you can set it on 80 and just head down the road the motor is not even laboring at all. MPG was down never figured it but I would say 9-11 again.

I tried the 210 tune it worked great but the 275 is were the MPG's are at.

I'm showing 55k on my 08 and I bet 40k was on Spartan and mostly towing(23' boat, enclosed sled trlr, and 28' camper trailer with 2 sportsmans on the deck). Last month I switched to the edge cts. My TC was starting to slip all the time with the spartan. And when i would tow up hills in the lower gears the tranny temp would hit the roof! By no means am I bragging about the Edge! I would say it is somewhere in the middle of stock and Spartan 250. And the shifting sucks!!! But for those of you guys who think that TC can handle 500rwhp towing **** up to the mtns your crazy. Monitor TC slippage. You can actually see it slip before you start to feel it slip! But I sure as hell miss the Spartan when I'm hitten the on ramp!

Oh and I have a hard time with the 20+mpg! Hand calculated filled to the brim all the time my truck got 5-8 towing and 8-11 empty! I thought only the chevy drivers blvd what their dash was telling them they were getting for mpg!

6.4

6.4,6.0,6.7 what the h-ll is next, them guy's with the dmax's just drive them they dont need to spend any money on them. they are good on power from the factory im think im goind to trade for one.
