On our last club ride at Soapstone 3 of our 14 riders continued on when I decided to turn around and head back {our gals kept getting stuck} the snow was over the hood we were about 1.5 miles from the lookout at Lighting Ridge this was about 2:00 P.M. The 3 made a wrong turn and started down a hill that got so steep they had to run into trees to stop, they spent the next 4 hours lowering the sleds down to Iron Mine Creek by rope. It was dark by then so they built a fire and spent the night. I got a knock on the motor home door about 1:00 A.M. the wives of 2 of the guys had called 911 when they didn't come home. By 5:00 A.M. about 20 S&R headed out. I gave them the waypoint of their last location. They followed the tracks and found them by first light. S&R packed a trail down the drainage and got them and the sleds out by noon on Sunday saving them a helicopter bill.
