Tether time

My Cordless Teth-Air saved me recently too. I was side-hilling and lost the sled to the down side and it rolled away from me. It went upside down and landed with trackside up hill and the throttle pinned. I slid down the hill out of control toward the spinning track but before I piled into it I covered my transmitter tag and the sled shut down. By the time I hit it, the track was only spinning slowly. It was like slow motion when it happened but I could not stop my slide because of how steep it was.

I've never looked at the Teth-air before. I'd like to know more about it.

How far away can you get before it does it's thing? Can you set the distance or is it preset? 2 feet? 4 or 6 feet?

That looked nasty. Have you ever thought about putting something on the studs that stick up a on the mnt bar going over the bars could leave a nasty scar. You could just cut them off.
Ride fast and take chances

I actually just took the mountain bar off all together.

I am so glad to hear the success stories from those who are using the tethers. I was on the mountain when Shawn Los t him arm. I had to unbolt the suspension and take out his mangled arm.... I do not ever want to hear about anyone ever experiencing what we went through... Just picked up my 2012 pro and it doesn't have a tether. It will be installed before I hit the snow... The next time you think they get in the way. Think about riding with a prosthetic ... It won't be a big deal..

It hurt worse than my broken hand... eek! Thinking of shortening it up so it pulls sooner/quicker...

We quit the cup style as they kept failing on us. Went to the ProDesign WPS part #27-0100 (for black) clip style and have had much much better luck.

Also, I installed mine on the console (see below) and have had no issues with it getting in the way since.

The Pro Designs are nice.

So on another forum they had the same thread going and one guy said you need a “Normally-closed” circuit tether switch. Now here the link to gobigparts says that tether is for an “open circuit” (here: http://www.gobigparts.com/Pro-Designs-Handlebar-Mount-Tether-Switch.html).

So which kind do you need for the Polaris sleds, Normally-closed or Normally-open circuit?

Normally opened but some electric starts sleds are normally closed. Mine is not electric start so I don't know which electric start sleds. I know cats are usually nc.

PRO-DESIGN

JUST ordered up a pro-design tether for my '13 retro. What have you guys been doing as far as mounting options? I didn't really care for the counsel mounting like the pic above...

I am thinking of having a big sale on the Cordless Teth-Air's this Fall instead of spending big bucks for the sled show booths. As our product is costly to manufacture and for approvals in Canada and the US along with patent licensing costs, maybe we should just have a big sale on the forums and pass on what we would spend at the shows to forum members. If there are enough people interested, I will meet with my business partner and sell the idea to him. We are talking about pretty good savings like 2 for the price of 1if we get enough feedback?

I will start a new topic in the General Snowmoble section that you can reply to if interested.

I will post a link here when its posted.

Here it is: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3094089#post3094089

In March of 2011 I was cutting a sidehill on my 11 Pro up near Thunderbolt Lookout in Idaho when I hit a log or rock under the snow. The sled went over with me on it and the throttle pinned wide open and I was under the track on the second roll. The track ripped across my legs for a few seconds which was long enough to end my season. I had deep bruises on/and in both legs that did not go away totally for over six months. It also twisted my back and I don't think that it will ever be the same. I have lower back pain and stiffness that I did not have before. I was laid up the rest of the spring and most of the summer. It also melted the top layer and tore my Klim pants. Thankfully, I had good pants on. It felt like I was having my legs removed with a dull chainsaw. The sled did one more roll after chewing me up and landed upside down idling. I put a tether on it last fall and I will be putting one on my 2013 Pro 163 too. A simple thing like a tether would have saved me a lot of grief, pain, doctor bills, remainder of a good snow season and a perfect pair of Klim pants. I had to replace them since they were ruined.

No tether is like No beacon etc.. except sometimes you get a second chance is it worth the risk?

Has anyone installed the tether on the 2013's yet? Any photo's of the install on the dash. Also where is the plug?

The 11"s and 12"s had the plug at the back of the steering post. I assume the 13 is the same. I have one coming so I can post some pics of the Cordless Teth-Air install when I get the sled.

Huh, simular happened to me, Lefty froze up, got lucky it flipped before hitting the reprod. Burned my Klim pants and spanked me like my dad did, hurt for weeks, got lucky and reached up and hit the kill button. Great advice, Tether or DIE !!! cheap insurance
