After being only a few years into sledding i have a question for all the vets of the sport.Ive read so many posts etc about guys having their throttles stick open and destroy their sleds........most of the guys i ride with including myself dont fasten their tether cord to their body(i know your suppose to but i guess its a convenience thing) but im starting to think its cheap insurance to start using it properly?? Opinions???

just this weekend, guy from our crew, had his bars collapse (bad weld) and throttle hit leg threw him off back, throttle stayed pinned to the seat, and rocketed the sled across the lake (15 miles in the backcountry) into two trees, sled was going sooo fast it sheared off the first treee (10") and then partially sheared the large dead rotted out one (approx. 18" tree)

Needless to say, sled is destroyed...tether would have made this a non event, other than no steering...

The bigger ? is why is doo the only one with a tether cord?

Thats a very good ? I put one on my sled for about $40 but ALL of them should come with it. I've seen enough guys wreck a sled because they did not have one or did not wear it that I rarely even start my machine without putting it around my wrist first.

Anti-Theft device ?

If I remember correctly, an arctic cat key would fit any Cat sled, not sure about Polaris or yamaha

Polaris has 4 keys, A B C D. you got a one in four shot of stealing the sled.

But really a tether has nothing to do with the key, you could still have both.

Kinds like big machinery, I got a Bobcat, Cat, JCB, and Komatsu key to start about anything around.

I should make it a habit but I always seem to pull it off with all of the jumping from side to side and stuff.

I try to have it on my body whenever I ride..

I heard too many stories of the throttles sticking, and the sled just flies into some trees. DESTROYED!

Ever snap your steering post while leaning into a carve??? Not a good outcome either...

Wear the tether, The only time it becomes a nuisance is when I am stuck, otherwise it does not effect your riding whatsoever.

My tether is a wireless radio device. I set a 5-10 ft. from the sled.

I have to admit I have never considered wearing mine. I buy a sled and clip the teather to the bars for life.
So now tell me where is the best place to attach it. Wrist, jacket or maybe your nuts? Seems tough for a guy jumping and carving a lot. I totally follow the thought of my sled going into trees, but that made me think of my sled rippin full throtle into people. Not a good thought.

I usually clip the tether to a caribeaner. It makes it easier to click to my jacket, there is a plastic loop in the front of the jacket

Teth-air that is awesome!

I always used mine when climbing.....my new Dragon 8 tried to get away from me last weekend and they do not come with teathers..I will be getting one for that sled soon!

I used a wrist strap that has velcro closure and a small D ring...Your hand is typically not far from the bars. I have been dragging myself back on in deep snow and if the teather was on jacket or anywhere other than wrist it would have shut me down.

Great question.....This should be a manufactures requirement right in there with the EPA junk. I have never seen a JetSki without one. Every SkiDunk I have ever owned had them also...I think SLP has them and I saw something in a wiring diagram that I think is allready wired and ready for the switch.

Yea what is the cost of that guy, and how much does it wiegh

The transmitter is about 3 times as heavy as a 9 volt battery with the battery in it and the receiver weighs about 5 times with the aluminum case. We aren't selling them yet as we will require approvals for transmitting radio and we don't have a time to build with our current day to day business. We are working on a less complex system that should be easier to build and market. I would expect the current system would sell for about $300.

You can go to our website if you want to have a better look.

I did assume the wrist would be the best. But I can't help but wonder if it would wrap around the bar handle while grabing the mountain bar continuously. I like to carve and extreme side hill. As some may know your hands are all over the place. That's just one more thing to concentrate and worry about. The wireless sounds like the way to go. I'm waiting!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I always wear the tether

If you have ever fallen off of your sled and had it chase you as it rolls downhill, it is much nicer to have the motor dead and the track stopped than to be staring at the spinning track! Better to dig out once in a blue moon becuase you accidently pulled out the tether than to crash and burn because of a stuck throttle.

I dont care what anyone says or how they justify it. NOt wearing your teather is retarded.

Would you let your car go down the road by itself while running?

Wait until you flip your sled over and the throttle sticks open and your near it. Also if you have ever seen one rolling down a mountain with someone underneath and that happens then you will understand. Sleds will tailwhip when the throttle sticks and they are upside down.

I always 100% ride with it attached to me. This sport is dangerous enough without me helping it out.

I wear my tether atleast 95% of the time. I attach the clip to key chain type thing thats pretty much a caribeaner. works good.
