Tether Question

Ok, dumb question. With a tether, is your sled supposed to stop only when the tether completely pops off? I put a new tether on (first one) and a small tug that doesn't seperate the cord from the base will stop the sled. The little rubber piece in the base has some side to side movement but other than that everything looks good. Also when restarting the sled, sometimes I have to twist or pop on/pop off the tether to get the sled to fire. Is this normal or do I need a new tether?

will have some movement but with restart after the tether is off its common to have to play with and/or wiggle it to make a good connection. and it takes more than a gentle tug to get it to come off other wise it would pop off to easy while riding from the small tugs it gets when the rider moves

Depending on which tether you have that sounds right. Mine is very touchy. I'd rather have it touchy.

I went with a C clip style tether instead of a rubber boot type

less prone to getting ice in side of it, and it won't wear out over time

very positive disconnect

mine also has a push kill button, so I was able to disconnect the stupid rocker kill on my bars

I cut a rubber disc out and epoxied it onto the middle plunger to keep it from being real touchy. Throw some E6000 on the thing to keep it in place and the only time I had problems with it is when I lost the rubber disc.

how does a guy wire in a tether? Want one on my sled. Just splice it onto the kill switch wires, or ignition?

Thanks,

What kind of sled do you have? It all depends on whether or not you have a normally open or normally closed ignition system. You need to get the right one for your sled. Wire it inline with the main ignition wire to the key, not the kill switch.

Who makes that tether. Looks better than the rubber boot style. Although Mule's idea works good. Tried it today. Thanks guys.

Looks good. Like the looks of that tether.
I have tried the rubber boot style and got so frustrated with em I just disconnected mine and went back to the standard kill switch. I have found some others but man are they expensive.

More expensive than a sled ghostriding into a tree?

I liked the Pingel on my Apex. Positive disconnect and stays connected when moving around on the sled.

Sorry, 07 M8.

You should have a plug in the harness for the tether as well. Go to the dealer and order one. Then you get the right one and it should plug right in (ask them what wires it plugs into or look at the floor models). Sorry, I don;t know if the 07 are open or closed, I'm gonna guess open??? Anyone really know?
