TETHER -MY INSTALLATION WITH PICS

So I finally installed a tether. I have not used one in years. After reading some of the stories on these forums you've done your job to convince me.

I choose the Pro Designs Tether in black because of the clip style Key and many feel they are more reliable. http://www.gobigparts.com/Pro-Designs-Handlebar-Mount-Tether-Switch.html

Installation couldn't have been easier. No holes to drill, no brackets to be made, and no wires to be cut and spliced. My sled I installed it on is a 2012 ProRMK 155.

So the first thing i did was to find a spot on my handlebars where I wanted to mount it and felt it was out of the way but still easy to plug into. Mounting it just takes a 9/64th allen wrench.

Once that was done I removed the hood to make it easier to access the wiring harness near the steering post and dash. Once the hood is removed you will see a black nylon cover with velcro around the harness. Inside you will see 2 open connectors. One is black and with the plug side being more square and the other one is white and is smaller with more of a rectangular shape. The black one is the one you will need.

Then I took 2 small male connectors and crimped one on each of the 2 wires that come out of the tether.

Then you just plug them into the terminals in the black connector on your wiring harness. Doesn't matter which wire goes to which side of the connector.

When done zip ties your wires up neatly and tuck the connectors back inside the nylon velcro cover.

Fire you sled up and test the tether to make sure when you removed the key/cord that the sled shuts off.

If you want to do this to yours and you order the tether from Go Big Parts I will throw the 2 connectors in for FREE.

I will also crimp them on for you if you want. So when you got to my website link you will see a Model option where you can select ProRMK with connectors and ProRMK with connectors installed.

So if you want the connectors but don't want them crimped on the end of the wires select the RMK with connectors.

If you want the connectors already crimped on the end of the wires select RMK with connectors installed.

Hi. Nice pictures on the install, only thing I would worry about is the tho spade connectors. If one of them fall out or come loose the tether stop working. So a plugg that fits would be nice.

Is this mayby the plugg that fits?

I'm sure there is one available somewhere that locks. These clicked in fairly tight. Something to watch for. One could silicone them around the top and tape if wanted. I was comfortable with the install so I didn't bother. Once velcroed back in the nylon cover it really doesn't move much. I used zip ties as well.

Dear Snowest Customers. I didn't realize how many tethers I would be selling and had to order more. So many of you that ordered I just want to let you know I had to get more in. All or most of the early ordered ones came in last night. I just have to put the connectors on and send out. Due to the Holiday we can not ship today.

So these orders will go out tomorrow Friday the 23rd.

Thank you for understanding.

your marketing scheme worked ! I bought one ! I had been looking at those for a while and wondered if they would mount on the bars just as you did. SOLD @ that point !

o-rings?

Is this tether switch with O-rings or is it without? I have been looking for tether like this and it seems that some of them don't handle water very well, but some does.

The clip, is it the same as Yamaha outboard style? Is it possible to buy extra clip/cords?

I will have to look at mine for o rings. The extra key/cord can be purchased on my site as well.

I looked and the housing is very tight around the switch. I am thnking if it has one it is just inside the housing. It seems hidden well enough that is should be to much of a problem. I know others on here use them and I have not heard of any problems.

That is a rock solid killer tether , but , been there done that and found out the hard way .

It's not made for snow applications , used it as the main ignition and in good deep snow it sticks and does not retract to kill . Only time it failed repeatedly was in those conditions , had to actually push it in by hand even though it snaps like a pitbull .

It's now on the quad .

I almost ordered one till I read this post. Anybody else have any further input on this?
Hawkster, did you go to a different tether?

We use these tethers racing Watercross, they preform way better than the OEM tethers. this should be a could testement to there abilty to handle water.

We also have the OEM style. Polaris is normally open.

I still think the Pro Designs is a better tether. Further testing will tell. I know others on here use it and recommend it. I have mine mounted so the key goes into the bottom. Any water should fall down and not go up into the tether. It also looks like there is a small amount of dielectric grease on the inside part of the switch itself by were the key plugs in.
