Tension on 162'' track on King cat?

I'm having a little trouble gettin my tension just right, When it's loose it ratchets a little in deep snow, When I get the ratchet out by tightening it up I loose all the suspension, ideas?

try anti-ratchet drivers. They use the track windows along with the drive lugs so you can run the track loose and no ratcheting. My dad has the same problem on his 01 mountain cat 800 with a 156". He tightens the track and looses the suspension, he is going to put the new drivers on this summer and see how they work next year. hope this helps....

One of the biggest causes of track ratcheting is a bad front skid shock. If the front shock does'nt keep enough resistance to sudden pressures the track will go loose and ratchet.

Sensitive adjustment ratcheting can often be a sign of the drive shaft bearing going or being out. Keep an eye on that! Grease the speedo cable connection side of the shaft/bearing often and inspect it before every ride. You'll be glad you found it then, rather then out 15-20 miles from the truck.

He said it was a king cat and they come with extrovert drivers stock.

Squarehead55 - something must be wrong. I have the same setup and run the track somewhat loose and have had no ratcheting issues. As stated already - check your bearings and front shock.

i had an odd thing happen (with me go figure) the front upper a arm in the rear skid cracked at the front upper shock mount would run fine and ratchet on and off so when i tightened it up it would bend the a arm down after a little bit and do it all over again. found it back at the truck after a few 60+ pulls back down the trail:eek:

Squarehead, what year is this KK? I had this same problem on my 2004. It didn't come with extroverts from the factory like the newer KK's did so I installed a set. It was the only way to cure the ratcheting, especially once I installed nitrous:D. When I had the suspension out I removed the plastic caps off the front of the rails and cut 2 inches off each rail then reinstalled the plastic caps. You have to cut these to prevent the rails from running into the extrovert drivers when the suspension is compressing during operation. Don't cut too much off though because you could stab the rails into the track when running:mad:. I ran it like this for 3 seasons with a fully ported 162" attack 20 track and it never ratcheted, hit the drivers or stabbed the track. I had about 3-4 inches sag between the track and hifax when the sled was on a stand. Hope this helps ya out.

Cheers;
Shane

if you end up going with extro's i have pictures of my rails when i cut them down, i put the skid in and out a few times because i wanted to take off the least amount i had to. works fine no problems, then i installed a two wheel idler kit in the front of the rails (have the part number from hi-perf) these wheel kits are $47 instead of the anti stab kit price... pm if you need or want the pictures
