Temp issue

Had to ride some hard pack yesterday on my 2011 Pro. Even with the scratchers down the temp got up to 174. How bad is bad? When will it go into limp mode? Ran great once we got back to the soft stuff. :face-icon-small-dis

We have had similar concerns with our ProRMK. The local Polaris shop (highly respected) recommended shutting it down at 180 degrees to cool off. We had seen 195 degrees a couple of times prior to that with scracthers down on hardpack.

I believe someone stated the warning light comes on at 205 to 210 degrees.

Rode with a guy on a new 2010 Dragon who saw 230 degrees before it started puking coolant (he forgot to put his scratchers down).

Redline Water Wetter seems to help drop temps about 10 degrees. Big debate on whether longer snowflaps help with cooling.

Not bashing Polaris as we absolutely both love our sleds.

Maybe some type of ski scratchers might get more snow in there in marginal conditions.

I had to pull a sled out 20 miles the other day going to slow made it hard to stay cool but packing snow on the tunnel cooled it right down to 125 deg.

If you can keep speeds above 30 MPH the stock flap and scratchers will keep the sled at 125-130 all day

I think the manual says 250 is redline. I was at 201 this weekend on a short stretch of slow and low snow... I was not happy... lol

like others have said, speed + scratchers = no problem.

What winter?

What he said. I believe the temp number on the display will start blinking at around 200-205. If the indicator light left of the display starts flashing? Shut her down. Anyway the scratchers have worked for me 100% of the time. 125
How come there is not a degree symbol on any key board.:face-icon-small-con
God, this winter sucks!:face-icon-small-sad

Ive come to this conclusion that it all depends on snow conditions. Had it out last weekend on a freshly groomed/frozen trail. It didnt cool at all in the morning, once we came back in the afternoon when the trails were chewed up a bit it cooled just fine.

That being said, Ill prob invest in a set of scratcher's and be done with it.

I seldom see temps above 130 with my scratchers down. What conditions are you riding in?

Pro RMK's come with scratchers.

I had the same problems and have gotten up to 205 degrees.

We changed my theromstat and now it doesn't get so hot now.

scratcher distance

i noticed my left scratcher is about 1 inch from the right side of the track while the left side is about 2 inches..

If you are having cooling issues, pull them away from the track at least 3" and see how that does for you.

Interesting, I'll take a look and try that next time. I haven't had any temp issues prior to my last ride. Hard pack trail, 30-40mph (scratchers down) and temps were creeping around 170, never seen it above 130ish prior on similar conditions.

My light came on and retarded at 206-207 Shoulda been watching my gauges instead of the trail out! haha.... brraaaaaaappppppp

I was on a trail which was iced up to the point the track didnt penetrate at all and the skis barely left an impression. temps were sky rocketing. So I tried the bolt trick at the back of ski. went with 3/8" stainless ready rod and fender washers. temps didn't climb over 145 after that.

We frequently ride trails to get to the good stuff that are single track, rock hard or ice with waist deep moguals that are about 4' apart. Only real choice is about a 10mph ride. In those conditions even with sctratchers down I reoutinely see 200+ degrees. Temp light comes on around 220. Det/stutter kicks in around 200-230 depending on how much throttle you hit. Alot of times we will have about 10 miles of this to get up top. Not much you can do about it. No getting off the trail to get snow ect... Single track through tight trees. (ie less than 48" apart) Haven't burnt up a motor yet. Just shut em down once the hot light does finally come on and pack the tunnels full of snow and have a beverage and a snack yourself while they cool off a bit.

Like has been said, if you can get your speeds up to 30ish, the scratchers do a great job of helping to keep things cool. Just not at real slow speeds. Spin the track often and try to spray what you can up on the coolers.

Pro RMK's come with scratchers.

Its a base 600 RMK

If my temps get hot, I get off the trail and turn the sled on its side while its running and crack the throttle, then SLOWLY lower the sled with the track spinning it will chew up the snow and throw a lot of snow on the coolers. It will drop your water temps 20-30* instantly. Works great, an Iron Dog Racer showed me that trick. Much better than sitting on the trail waiting for it cool or throwing snow on top of the tunnel.
