Changing secondary clutches...Need conversion advice

My sled is a 2001 GenII RMK with an 03 VES 800.
Turbotater ported.
Modified SLP twin pipes. Billet heads. 14:1 domes.
Makes 125 to 130 lbs compression at 7500 feet elevation.
159" finger track. RMI gear drive. 2.08 gear ratio (19/43 with 10t drivers, 2.52 pitch)

It's ported and piped to HOLD 8400 RPMs.

OK...
Here's the deal.

I've been running the old Cat roller secondary. My secondary was taken out (collateral damage).

My setup was 48/44 mtn cut helix (or called 1/2 step...It shifted to 44 at 1/4 shift out instead of 1/2 shift out.) Brown Aaean spring. Middle hole.
I like the low engagement on the bottom end 3800 so it doesn't not trench out and I'm not looking for a hole shot drag racer.
I like it really snappy in the mid range.
I like track speed and getting up the hill fast, but I'd rather get OVER the hill than not have the backshift to hold R's and then not make it out.

I think I'm going to go with a TEAM secondary.

HOW THE HECK do I figure out a starting point for a clutch set-up. I sure as heck don't want to buy 4 springs and 6 helixes to get close.

I saw this in a Dragon-8 thread....

Any suggestions for those VES big block 800s and a team clutch.

The 64-40-.40/62-42-.40 is the absolute best helix for the 800 CFI for ALL type's of mountain riding, tight slow tree riding, boondocking, on/off the flipper, etc.

And is a proprietary cut helix available at Carls Cycle.

That helix you have is kinda close to the preferred but the stock 58 is no good.

I know what I would do....and I'm sure others will have their opinion.
The weak point of the TEAM is holding the belt at higher shift ratios, so IMO it's best to use a shallow helix....a 58/40.46-58/38.46 with a red/black spring is a good all around mountain setup and 2 Delrin washers if desired.
Then Almond round and whatever 10-weights or Lightning weights necessary to get your 8400.
Just a good, proven setup and most run 2.05-2.10 gearing with this so you are good there.
This is assuming the '04 TEAM, if you go with the new TEAM Tied I couldn't tell you I havn't messed with it (yet).

I ran an '04 800 that was ported, heads, etc with a single pipe. Track was a 159 Camo x 2.4 x 2.52. With a TSS08 and a 60/38 helix (one delrin) I could pull 8200 at 10,000 ft. I suspect that you have a little more motor than mine and may pull more rpm. Of course your primary setup is also part of the equation. What are you runnin up front?

I like mine loaded so im using 66 x 44 x46 blk red in pow and drop to 66 x 40 x46 in set up or spring snow but you know what im runnin for power

also SLP probably has the best setup on line
and they have tied converstion tables

How can you get away with such a steep initial angle in an 800 on these TEAM clutches?

Its pretty short + - .420 long then progressive to 46 if you go to team web they explane how there helix works stock 800 run a 58 x 40

OK, for comparison I also ran a P85 primary with a Pol spring that was 120/340 with 68g MTX weights. MTX weights are roughly a stock weight + 4g. Again, I was turning 8200...

My primary is a p-85. Titanium 160-310. 58g weights.

So you are turning the stock equivalent of 64g of weights at 10k feet? That's a lot of weight. I've been running 58g of stock weight with my 160/310 primary spring..

Well i can tell you right now there is no team set that will run with a FINGER track so get rid of that thing will you. No serious i really like Winter brews set up I actualy have used that 58/38-58/40 in my 800,910,and 1200 i love it. By the way are there even any fingers left on that track except the middle one that i think i see??

Yeah, I agree it sounds like alot. The SLP MTX's are a difft animal; some playing with rivet placement and rivet weight was involved... they worked great for me though. My old Mod sled was around 160HP(est) with great torgue. My final drive (effective gearing) was around 2.2 Side note; I run Pol 60 grammers in my Pro @ 10k.

Lmao, LT.

I have some hammertime weights sitting on the shelf. Might be fun to get this thing dialed and them start throwing those in there.

I've got a borrowed TEAM on it now. Thanks to Slash925.
Haven't run it yet...should get a chance in the next few days. I THINK it's a tss-04.

He said the set up is 58 x 42 x .46 , with the 2nd angle is 58x 44 x .46.
It's runnin a red/blk at 140-240 and two delrin washers.

Is the TIED still being used? Is that the std model now used by TEAM or is it the TSS-04?

If I like using this loaner, what clutch is a smarter one to get in to?
It's an RMI drive shaft. It's the old standard std (1" ?) keyed shaft, not a splined shaft.

I still prefer "the old cat roller" to a team clutch. Great performance/cheap parts. The team has similar performance, much more expensive parts. Good luck with your change.
