Team Tied clutch???

I pick one up and made some searching for what helix to run and ended up with a 77-59 .46. Took the sled out last night and at first I was impressed with how fast the thing was on and off the throttle. I was hitting 8100 right away and really consistent. But later in the ride I got in a little bit of powder and was not able to pull the helix. Hittin 7600 and working up to maybe 7850. Well then headed back down to the truck is when I really got disappointed. It would hit 7600 and I would have to keep it pinned for the better part of 5 or 6 sec to get it to climb to 8000. I guess what I'm asking is does this sound like clutching? That is the only thing I have changed, and my stock secondary with my old set up walked all over this set up last night. :face-icon-small-fro

Go to the SLP site for good "free" information. choose to view the single pipe instructions for the 2008-10 D8. Tied set up from that is what I run (73-57.46 and red/blue spring) at 8000'. No problems what-so-ever. Depending on your elevation, you sound like you have 4 to 2 degrees too much helix. By the way, what spring are you running?

Thanks for the reply. I am running the red black, I think that is a 140-240. I'm running 8000 to 10000. Is that red blue a 140-200?

As others stated, 73/57 if you have a 155", or even a 71/55 if you ride a 163" in steep, deep, hard pulling conditions...assuming your primary is set up properly.

I'm running a 73-57-.46 and a 73-59-.46 in mine. With a 160/260 black/white.

This is in my old GenII 800 mod sled with a 159" finger track.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm running 62 gram weights, have a PA 13.6 head. At 8-10 k feet. I ordered a 73-55/57 .46 today and plan on trying that with the red black spring. Thanks again.

I picked up a 77-57 .46ER with a red/dark blue spring that I was going to try. Was supposed to be the equilivant to Carls helix for the tied....now I am wondering if it is too much??? Using Carls clutching in the primary and a SLP single pipe with a PCV fuel controlled.

To much helix. I run 64-42 in my TSS-04 other angle is 64-44 at elevation it will do just as you describe on 44 finish. Down low for racing 44 is much faster but up high for climbing 42 is just right. Pros here run running 66-40. tried the tied and went back to TSS. Tied performed as well with some tinkering but produced more heat.

I don't know what the red dark blue is rated for but I'm pretty sure I could not have pulled that helix even with a stiffer spring, but I only have a head.

red/blue is the same on bottom but considerably softer on top. I tried the red/blue spring and did not like it. I have ran the red/black and black/white with good results.

I believe it was a softer spring and that would help with the steeper helix??? Maybe I should get a different helix??

Yeah at altitude a 77° initial angle in the Tied is too much.

Tell me if I'm wrong but I don't think you want a softer spring on a steeper helix because it will shift out even faster with a softer spring. A stiffer spring would hold the clutch from shifting out as fast.

Well, you want the happy medium on that spring. Don't go too far either direction.

You want to be able to overcome the ramp angle and still be able to backshift.

@ 1250ft i run 73 61 .46 with a 140 200 spring. Works real good. Clutches are cool and backshifts great. At 5k-7k i switch it out to 73 59 .46 with the stock 155 222 spring. Works good also. Primary is set up with 150-340 and 11-70 at 1250 and 10-62 at 5-7k. 77 is pretty steep. Lower elevation you could probably get away with 75 61 but thats about it unless youre piped with a head.

I think team recommends around 73 57 on a 155 with the 155 222 spring at 8k ft.

I'm using the 73-57.46ER helix and Red/Black spring in my '09 777 RMK 155" and the Peak track w.19/42 gears. So far works great, can't tell you the RPMs while climbing a decent hill as I was more interested in watching were I was going - sorry.

All right it has been a while time to up date. The last set up I had was a 73/57 with a red black. It would not pull the 73 off the bottom and seemed like the spring was to stiff on top. Now i am back to stock sec and playing with some mds weights. when I get them figured I plan on going with a 66-56 FP.
