TEAM or '97 stock button polaris clutch????

I have a chance to trade my stock 97 secondary for a team clutch straight across. Which would be a better clutch for mountains? I realize that set-up is everything so I will tune either one. It will be going on a 97 mod sled with edge tunnel and suspension 159 track modded 700 motor including nitrous. Any insight would be great thanks.
 
I like the Team clutch, it does great backshifting. But go into any trade eyes wide open; the older Team clutches could not be easily rebuilt, if the Team has worn bushings, you could be trading a good P-85 clutch for a paperweight.
 
A well tuned Team secondary will outperform a button clutch all day. Stay away from the earlier models as some tolerances were off and wore quickly on the bushings.
 
I don't share Marv1's love for the TEAM. The TEAM works well, but it always has more heat than the button clutch. Get a machine dialed in for best performance with a TEAM and with a button and they will perform the same but the TEAM will make more belt heat.

The only reason I run TEAM clutches is to have reverse.

Why is the guy willing to trade you straight across?

Very well put, the more power you put to a team, the tougher it is to set-up. Teams work well on stock sleds. Almost everyone who bashes a button clutch, hasn't tried running both clutches.
 
heres another vote for sticking with the button clutch. we've had a few guys in our group trade there team back for a stock button clutch cuz we couldnt get the team to work right. and we've never seen a team clutch out perform a properly set up button clutch. like mentioned above the only reason i see for having the team is reverse.
 
Its just a buddy of mine and he doesnt know how to do anything with the team but does on the button. I think I'll just stick with what I have though I dont want to be tuning all season again.

The button's I have set up loved the SLP 50/36 Mountain helix with the stock silver/blue spring. Gearing at 19/41 and 252 9tooth drivers. Stock blue spring in the primary and tune RPM's with weights. 60's for UT I would guess. ;)

For the new style team, 58/38 red-black spring, same formula in the primary and gearing (you might even be able to pull the 58/40 side of the helix). But as sled guy said, more heat than the button. Thus the 115 belt. However the 115 belt won't fit a 97 twin and is not as sticky as th 065.
In the end, button all the way for your 97. IMHO
 
Ya I think I'll just stay with my button. Thats some god seet-up advice I'll have to look and see whats in it for sure to see how close to that I am.
 
Ok I checked my set-up after looking at your suggestions and I have
62.5 lightning weights with a blk/grn spring in primary
44-46/32 M SLP helix with blk/gry or silver spring in secondary. I'm pretty sure gearing is 19/41 might be 42 stock drivers for now with a 159 track. Seems to work great I havent had it in real deep long pulls since I put in this set-up though the snow was a bit on the hard side but I'll let ya know.
