Tattle Tale Function in the Rmk's ECU

Talking with my dealer and they say the new Rmk's have a function in the ecu that records interfaces with outside or added control units such as power commanders. If problems occur, they download the ecu and if they find evidence of tampering that can void the warranty and you are SOL. Anyone else hear of this. Maybe something to consider if you took the extended warranty option.

Depends on the design of the programmer, whether it's changing parameters in the ECU, or changing the signal from ECU to injectors mid-point.

FWIW, the most recent 2 duramax ECU's have complete program ID tracking controls built into them, and service techs are instructed to review and take pics of the output as required, and check them against the serialized list of OEM programs. This is new - the LBZ duramax, e.g., only has a torque history in the Allison, not the ECU. All OEM's are tuned into the game now, so to speak.

I heard it has a record storage and that it records thottle postion, rpm, water temp, air temp. etc ( the information from its sensors), so they can track if you held it wide open for 35 minnuts before it blew to pieces. In fact you can even get a snap shot of that data on the sled's guage itself, I think 2minutes. I have not heard that it can record acutal injector cycle time in relationship to any other paramater that would alow them to know if you installed a piggy back system like the power commander. Someone will know for sure. I just need to go riding. pray for snow.

What made me put 2 and 2 together was Dustin's post about the SLP exhuast needing a PC V, well I don't want to void that 4 year warranty.

Sounds like MADS electronics needs to build tuners for sleds. Like how some programmers reset your key-on counter when they remap your ecu, but the Smarty doesnt. Someone will put in the time & money so that we can tune our sleds and still go back to our dealerships

correct me if i'm wrong but don't the after market boxes just change the injector pulse after the ecu? from what i've seen these plug into the wiring harness at the injectors, so don't really see any way the ecu would know what is happening after the fact. heck they are still trying to get a good fuel map done, would hope installing a tattletale for mods would be farther down thier list:) the efi system on sleds is a very primative one, cars were running a more complex system in the 80's. maybe someday they'll have an actuall feedback system so the efi will actually monitor the exhaust and make changes to how the motor is actually preforming instead of how it is now. the computer reads its signals from the sensors and adjusts to what it thinks should be the correct a/f mixture instead of actually checking the exhaust and adjusting to the hc/co levels...
