12 Pro, the primary bolt won't thread back in so I tried tapping it out (M14x1.5)but can't stop the crank. I want stick something in the spark plug hole but what to use without marring the head, piston or destroying what you put in there. Or is there an alternative?

Easiest quick thing is pull plugs and insert....rope on tdc cylinder, no muss no fuss.

THANKS! I was just going to start this project and was thinking of how to hold it if the tap got stuck? no problem just go in the other direction with the rope in it. But never thought of the rope getting caught in the ports, or for that matter what Mountainhorse said about being careful not to get the crank out of phase and use the PTO side ONLY if you use the rope

Well I just chipped one of the 8 cutting edges on the tapp. I was even using generous amounts of cutting oil. I'm just going let a pro do this. Should it be the dealer or a machine shop that would better handle this?
