Anyone been up there lately? Hows things look? I've been working a ton, haven't made the trip up since our last ride back in June.

No snow. There was a little bit of rain today.
Trees are green, dirt is brown.
Amazing views as always.

lol. How, wha, this place all face North ? You can if inclined to do so sled here in even July ?
Dang, would give long stretches of time to break in or tune new builds.

August 1st is the latest ride.
September 30th is the earliest.
Pics attached.
This is not the norm. This is the exception.
The mountain used to be open year-round DNR has since put up gates at multiple elevations closing and opening when they deem appropriate.

General riding season is mid-november through mid-june.

Yep 2011,2012 was good years here too !
Being able to escape the heat and churn snow that late is a highlight of outdoor REc !

Its deep. Plenty of snow at the snowpark.
Remember that the discover pass is not needed. Must have a snow park permit.
Sunday-tuesday may melt all the low elevation snow?

Bring ur boat and life jacket. [emoji943] [emoji943]

This weekend should bring some significant snowfall back to the regular scheduled program.

Anybody make it out this weekend? I assume with the weekend snow and cooler temps you can take off from the parking lot? Or possible tree phones? Looking to ride up there Monday to get some throttle therapy!

Yesterday, unloading above treephones. Depending on how much rain falls today, you might be able to unload at snowpark? Definitely shouldn't need to go past treephones. I think whites ridge would be worst case.

Plenty of snow for full days ride.
Thin but enough.
A lot of snow coming in the next 2 weeks.

Tampico has had snow in the parking lot all season. Never had to touch gravel unless u chose to leave the trail before sufficient coverage.
The snowpack is below average. However, the snow has covered the ground all season.

I've seen and ridden many seasons worse than this yr.

8ft of total snowpack at 7k.
Not horrible.

Snowpack has settled to 7 ft with a few inches of new on top of that.
This upcoming week will bring plenty of snow but it's going to get warm Friday and Saturday

This is the first time I have ever heard of an avalanche on Darland Mountain, I grew up in yakima and bought my first snowmobile and started snowmobiling in the shatanum in 1970.

I see small avy's often, caused a few myself, some large enough to bury me, but luckily, i and others have avoided buriel.

My condolences to the family.

I wish the media could properly report locations.

This particular avy was in the hidden bowl.
It is on Darland mtn, north of the super bowl/big bowl. Far from the bottom of Darland.........

This is an area that has huge cornices all yr long. Often falling and creating large snow boulders on the steep hillside. We play there often as it's fairly hidden and seldom ridden.

U gotta drop off the cornices to enter and find gaps in the cornice to leave.

There are alternate safe routes to enter and leave. However, those routes are usually only used when the snow is too deep to climb out. That said, i have taken my mother down into this area in spring snow.

This is a great reminder that even though Ahtanum/ Tampico is 'safer' than the North side of the i-90 corridor, avy's happen anywhere.

I worked at the Chandlers Ski Doo Shop in Toppenish when they had the Ski Doo Dealership and went snowmobiling with them often. One time we were up at kaner Flat in the Little Naches. Mike was about 4 years old. He asked me if he could ride my "Machine" I asked him if he could handle an Elan. He replied "If I can ride a 640 TNT I can ride an Elan".
