Tampico 2014 PART 3

It will be the first time on my sled since January. Breaking in the fresh motor. No more loaners and demo's

If anyone plans on riding in the near future bring chains and trailer up to whites ridge. It is probably a mile of gravel out of the 3.5 miles to whites ridge. I should have paid the ticket and drove up to whites ridge. When are they going to move the sign and let people drive up further?

Rode Tampico yesterday. The berm was still there & posted. We talked to the DNR guys & they let us drive up. They told us they would take the berm down & move the sign to Whites ridge. We made it to Whites ridge with a two place enclosed, but the conditions were good, frozen going up, semi soft coming down. It could be real nasty with different conditions, be very careful. Solid snow from Whites ridge up.

Middle fork road is about 50% gravel, 50% glare ice for the first 3 miles to Whites Ridge, then solid snow from there on up... watch for holes in the snow/ice where water is melting rivers across and down the road. We have 2 more weeks until the grooming season ends and the birms will be taken down at that time... As of Sunday when I talked to the DNR folks, they said it is still illegal to drive up the road with the roads designated for sleds only. Personally I would NOT risk driving up the road anyway with how icy it is, it would be awfully hard to keep a truck out of the ditch on that ice. If you can stand the gravel for a while then up top is worth it, but the first 3 miles are MURDER on your skis and hifax.

So what is the deal. We have conflicting reports about the berm.
Regardless of when the grooming season ends, the ber mSHOULD be moved up to Whites Ridge. There is not even enough ice to cover up all of that gravel. I would much rather throw some jewelry on the truck than ride the gravel.

I spoke with BBP. He rode on Tuesday. He stopped at the DNR station, I believe he spoke with Don. He was told it was ok to drive up to whites ridge rd.

That is correct. We talked to Jeff & Don. They said it was ok to go up & asked if we would haul the sign up to whites ridge & that they would ask the groomer to blade the lower berm down & rebuild it at whites ridge. We tried, we had the sign in the truck, but it has a heavy round base & we couldn't secure it properly. We didn't want to tear up our equipment or their brand new sign, so we left it at the berm. Jeff or Don, if you read these forums, I just want to say thanks for your cooperation & sorry we didn't get sign moved for you.

I talked with Don on Tuesday about the berms; he said he would talk to Jeff. So far none of them has got back to me.

You think I would at least be on their "call" list:face-icon-small-sho if things changed.

I would just drive up. They work for us and are not doing there job. Informing us is part of what they are getting paid for and they dont seem to be doing a very good job at it. They should have moved the signs up to whites ridge two weeks ago and did not do it. They need to quit paying all these jokers until they do what they are getting paid for. Rant over

Does anyone how the road is to Whites Ridge? I have a Suburban with a two place enclosed trailer.

A few spots with soft snow , no ice. You should be ok. There was a few patches of gravel out of whites yesterday but hopefully we get some low snow tonight because I'm thinking of going again tomorrow

Rode out of Whites again yesterday. The gravel patches are getting a bit bigger but was good riding up top.
When we got back i didnt see the sign anymore so they must have pulled it. Good thing, because if i go back up we need to drive up further to get on 100% snow.

We ride in from the Rimrock Lake side. No d-bag DNR cops and parking lot Nazis (No stupid *** discovery pass). You can ride the main trail through Conrad Meadows or take the 1050 shortcut putting us at blue lake within 20 minutes. Snow is still solid, much nicer.
