Tahoe area advice needed

Hey guys, we are looking to do our annual trip to the Tahoe area this year. We usually do Alpine, Star Valley, Kamas, Bear Lake, etc. but are looking to mix it up this time. I know the Tahoe area well from a ski-resort perspective but am clueless when it comes to riding up there.

Can you guys help point me in the right direction? Should we be staying in North or South Shore or somewhere else? What are the good riding areas? We are definitely looking for the big boy terrain...

Search on google "california sno-parks" and you will be able to get an idea of the riding areas close to South Lake, of cousre there are other areas, but these will be the legal areas. Check out Hope Valley/Blue Lakes, one of my favorites and close to Tahoe, also one of my favorites is Iron mountain but may be further than you want to drive.

1m:

Sonora Pass(120 miles south of Reno) is big time(9000-11,000 ft). Lot's of steep and good b-docking. Staying in Carson City/Minden would cover the southern areas - Sonora, Hope Valley, Ebbetts Pass, etc. Truckee would put you in the northern area. LTS(Little Truckee Summit) is a vast area and has a lot of different riding. It's 15 miles north of Truckee. Grouse Ridge is about 30 miles west of Truckee and is another good area. It all depends on what kind of snow year we have. Last year was kinda lame.

It's funny that you mention Alpine and Star Valley. Rode that area and also south of Afton many years ago and have always wanted to get back up that way.

Give us a heads up when you think about coming this way and we can fill you in. Would hate to see you come this far if conditons suck.

Have a great winter.

To the north of 80 you also have Little truckee summit, bassets, gold lakes, la porte. Tons of great area to ride. Let us know when you are in the area and one of the locals will hook you up.
