Tack Problems

Last weekend we went riding my tack stopped working. I could also hear a grinding noise. It sounded like it was coming from the secondary. Also my sled had no bottom end at all. On the top end when i finally got it going it was viberating like crazy. I was wondering if my secondary was screwed. If anyone has any idea whats going on here please fill me in thanks a bunch.

Most likely your speedo side draftshaft bearing has grenaded. Don't run it like that to prevent bulkhead damage. How many miles on the sled? Driveshaft bearings been replaced?

with scott on the driveshaft bearing, as for your tac someting prolly came unplugged or wire got worn thru by something or maybe melted by the exhaust

check under the oil tank for a rubbed through wire. Thats where mine rubbed through. My tach stopped working. It fried my stator, ECU and voltage regulator before i found it. Most likely your voltage reg is bad. Find the wire and get it fixed before you fry more electric parts that cost more then the sled is worth.

I took my secondary off an there was chunks of aluminum missing on the inside of the stationary sheave. Also there was chunks missing inside my belt. Couuld this possibly be the problem? Thanks!!!!

Thats probably the noise but that is NOT why your tach stopped working. Your tach is run off of the lighting coil on your stator. If it quit working either it came unplugged or you are about to have serious electric problems. Better check it out!! ECU are EXPENSIVE !!!!

Definately listen to ol' rixster. I bought an 04 900 efi last year that the head and tail light didn't work. I didn't want to mess with it as it was at the end of the season and I just wanted to ride. BAD MISTAKE. Ended up replacing fuel pump and ECU and still hadn't solved the light issue. Got on this forum and rixster pointed out the wiring issue under the oil tank. Found one wire completely worn in two and another down to bare wire. $1700.00 later problems solved and running like a top. Long story short ,fix electrical problems right now!!!!

Thanks again rixster for sending me in the right direction.

Gottoa go with the other guys on the vibration. start with belt and speedo side drive shaft bearing

To bad we couldn't have saved this info from the old forum and had it pinned, that was the first thing I did to mine after I uncrated it was protect all those wires,,and a few more just for S& G's because I had read on the old forum they were a problem.... prolly coulda saved a few guys some big dollars! :face-icon-small-sho

Oh yea Rixter the 20/46 straight 53 helix is the ticket holds 7500 rpm's at 9500 to 10,000 ft on a hard long climb!!!!!!!! Way better track speed sweet set up!!!!!!!!!
