Last ride my tac quit showing on display completely, also motor backfired twice during the day right when restarting. sled ran great other than the issues listed above. any guesses on what the issue might be?

get your voltage regulator/capacitor also ecu, i had all fry on my 09 and that was the first signs of issues( loss of tack)

hope that helps

Have that voltage reg checked! Way cheaper than an ECU... And possibly the stator, you can check with ohmmeter yourself, but I lost all my electronics once and that was the first sign basically. Luckily under snocheck warranty so I had to pay a deductible. If you are not under warranty then see if your dealer can check the voltage reg and if not, I would buy a new one to be safe. After checking the stator with an ohmmeter to make sure it is ok.

Also some people reported wiring rubbing through and/or shorted handwarmers (unplug them to check this) which can cause this as well as burn out the voltage reg. It is all in the threads linked below.

I am going to relocate the capacitor off the top of the voltage regulator and put a 12 volt computer fan on it. There is a while thread on protecting the electronics but no-one ever came up with a sure-fire way to fix or replace the regulator design, basically it needs to be cooled better as some of the posts measured temp and it was very very hot...

The threads are here:

Her's hasn't quit but it's stuck in metric , doesn't switch back , but the colors still change :noidea:

Mostly what sledhed stated.

Did your headlight go out as well?

If you have a left handed throttle, look for bare wires where it clamps on the bar.
Also, turning your handwarmers on and off, might help you locate a bad ground if in fact its a short in your handlebars and not your ecu/ voltage regulator.
