Took Tapex out for first ride today....

2 miles from parking lot.... 12 lbs of boost
Adjusted boost controller got up to 14....

Climbed about 1500 feet up (elevation) the trail and back to 10 lbs....

the boost controller didnt seem to make much difference whether I went uo or down...

Its just a spring in the dial right???

Changed belts no change...

Thoughts??

The Boondocker Controller showed previous max boost 18 peak 18.3 so I know it makes it
All I could get was 14.3 and ironically that was back lower in elevation and after backing the dial DOWN

Temp was 30-40 degrees and snow was wet and heavy

I've had boost controllers freeze up. Not sure which one you have but the hallman pro rx is bullet proof. The turbosmart ones we have nothing but problems with.

boost

your probably loosing boost, intake is poped off or something.. this is a booncocker check the tabs that hold the intercooler on one may be broken the best way to figure it out is put air to the system, I built a plug with air fitting so I could leak test my turbos. just dont put more than 15 lbs to it. makes is very easy to check for small leaks at clamps and so on..
you dont hear an exhaust leak do you a header leak will do that as well..

leak test plug =I used a abs pipe plug drilled slightly smaller than the threads of the air fitting, put a torch on the hole for a min. to soften and threaded the fitting in. pull your intake cage and clamp in you will find the back of the turbo leaks and you will want to roll the motor till you find the spot that doesnt blow threw.. I dont think your controller would have froze at those temps, your charge air will be way above ambient.

another thought, what boost controller do you have? ran into one a friends sled that was not a spring/ball and adjusted backwards, when you ran it out it increased boost.. julio

the guy I bought it from was with me and he was baffled as well...

I know the sled and it has been bulletproof... so this was odd!

I will check and find out what the boost controller is... checked and looked for air leak but it had all just been gone thru before delivery but that also makes me think it might have something that is loose because of it

boost

it is not uncommon to have the intake or boost line from the turbo pushed off and not be obvious because they sit back where they should be when not under presure. if someone has just had it apart I would start by checking the clamps. the air deal has saved me issue a few times with loose clamps etc... julio

What fuel are you running? You may have hurt that motor running the stock compression with that kind of boost. 12 lbs is max at that 1500 ft or even 4-5 thousand ft. elevation on 110 sunoco or 114 trick.

Sunoco 112 Blue

Its had 1000+ miles put on in exact configuration....

Julio thanks will get those things checked out
