Switching to 08 RMK 600 from 98 700

Posted this over on the Gen 1 section as well..

I had a bone stock 98 RMK 700 and I'm picking up a 08 RMK 600 155" this week

I searched around and couldnt find what kind of weight and HP the 98 had in comparison to the 08 600? I know I'll love the new ride but I'm curious how the new 600 will stack up against the 98 as far as overall performance and 'get up and go. I know the handling of the IQ will be night and day different - just curious how the 08 will do in the power dept in comparison to the old RMK 700

thanks

hey Alpine not sure if this will answer your question but I would guess the old RMK would have substantially more hp and top speed than the newer 600,s. I went from an 03 summit hmx 159 to an 08 dragon 700 163 and am not hitting top speeds that i used to but the power seems to come on alot differently than it did with the summit. Way more bottom end grunt and torque right thru the throttle range now, which allows me to climb 3 times farther up the hill :) Not to mention that I dont feel half as beat up after a day in the mtn's as i used to.:face-icon-small-hap

The new 600 will outrun that 98 all day with no promblem. It will keep up with the 800's. They are are a very good running machine. When you grab the the throttle fot the first time you will be wondering why you did not get one sooner. The only downside to the 600 is it needs a lot of venting and thats about it.

The 600 will walk all over the old 700. Not dissing the 7 but the 600 is a strong 120 hp where the 98 700 is about 105. I had a 06 600 and it would keep up with my brothers 05 800 edge rmk. wouldn't always get the highmark but i was right there with him. You cannot go wrong with the polaris 600. IMO its the best motor in the biz. You will love it! I promise

I'm sorry. The 98 700 has 118 hp. I was thinking of the 600. My bad. The 6 will still take it for a walk in the park.

The old 700 big block is actually a real torque monster. I have a 2000 700 RMK and just bought a 2010 D8 155. Riding my old sled last year back to back with demo riding the D8 I would say the old sled feels more responsive and harder hitting out of the hole than the newer sleds, but clutching is a big factor in that feel. The new sled keeps pulling longer and will outrun the old 7 but doesn't fell as brutal on initial throttle response. I have not ridden the 6 but I bet you will find the same thing, it may not feel faster but line them up and the new sled will win in a drag race, and there will be no comparison on the steep & deep.

I had a 97 RMK 700, and bought a 2008 600 EFI. The top speed and initial acceleration on my 700 was faster than my 600, but it's not a good comparison; the 97 had a 2" x 136" track, the 600 has a 2.4 x 155". There's a LOT more track to turn with the 600. However, that 600 makes life EASY. It's a lot easier to transition from sitting to standing on the IQ, which makes the day a LOT easier... and I don't get stuck as much, either...

add nitrous or a turbo on that little 600 and holy cow my brother in law has a rev xp and i can co any where he can:beer;
