I still have my log book from testing ethanol on my work car.
26% worse mileage, 15-19% cheaper than gas. The math does not work......
I don't doubt your numbers.
But they are not a constant by any means.
Your particular vehicle will experience similar results consistantly.
However, others may vary.
The other half of the equation will be extremely inconsistant with fuel prices changing day to day along with area to area, and the E85 prices are even more area sensitive.
Again, I don't doubt that your records showed E85 at 15-19% cheaper, but that is not typical to my area at all. (closer to 25-30%)
What I don't like is the fact that you obviously kept records to back up you arguement. People read it & figure...
"well this guy obviously did his homework, so it doesn't pay"
without taking into account the factors I listed above.
I am not saying corn based ethanol is the answer, but look how far that industry has come in the last 10 years! That would not have happened if we all sat on our hands & said.....
"I think I will wait until there is a better answer"
It's a work in process.
Bio-fuel is in it's infancy, take that to the bank.
I honestly believe in my lifetime, people will say....
"I remember when all the fuel came from oil"
