SwitchBack trail temps

Hey guys, this was the first weekend I had my 06 SB on hardpacked trails, and I'm a little concerned about the temps I'm running which are 150-165 hardpack, 125-135 fluff. The sled is BRAND NEW, literally, still breaking the engine in, roughly 150 miles total on the sled. I know it doesn't make a big difference, I've got the SLP hot air eliminators on both sides, and lower side panel vents. I'm thinking eventually to eliminate the "dead loop" in the system...has anyone noticed a difference in trail temps doing this? My sled is 240 miles away from me, what are the parts list I'll need to do this? In the meantime, what type of scratchers does everyone use, and where are they getting mounted? Does anyone have good luck with the ski mounted ones? I ride 50/50 trail/off-trail.

Thanks.

eliminate the dead loop on the front radiator, ive been running my 06 900SB in minimal snow all year and havent been above 140*, you will need 2) 3/4"-90* barbed hose fittings (brass or sch80 pvc) 1) 3/4" barbed hose plug, and 5 hose clamps

Ski mounted scratchers only work to lube the hyfax and do not offer much help with cooling. Mount your scratchers as far forward on the slide rails as you can making sure the suspension components don't hit them.

i slightly disagree with that statement. i have the simmons snow deflectors on my skis and the help cooling tremendously. i hardly have to run my other scratchers at all unless i am riding really iced out trails.

with the stock skis no scratchers i was 165+, stock skis and rail scratchers 135-145
simmon skis with snow deflectors 125-135.

Might be different on the Simmons. I based that off several posts I have read by people who have installed the ski scratchers on Fusions and had them still heating up with them.

Mine runs 120 to 125 with rail mounted scratchers down on hard packed trail.

Waiting for my Gen III's to arrive. :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo

I've been looking all over and can't find the deflectors you're talking about.
I'd love to put a set on mine.

A friend has some on his and they work awesome, but they were there when he bought it.

Link?

never seen those ones before. can you post a photo of them on the sled? The other 900 I'm picking up has Simmons skis.

So there is that big of a difference with the skid mounted scratchers? With it only being a 144" track, one would think that the skid mounted scratchers wouldn't be as effective due to the scratcher being halfway down the track...hmmm

What brand scratcher is everyone using? Can I (do I have to)then take out a boggie wheel with them? Are you guys making brackets to hold them up when not in use? Are they replaceable for if/when I reverse over them?

Sorry for the fifty questions!:face-icon-small-con

Like the wire type best as the cables never seem to keep enough downward pressure
you can mount them behind your bogies if ya want
They hook over the rail when not in use and if you must they are easily replaceable.

switchback and rmk frames are the exact same just the skid and a-arms are diffrent my 05 switchback is extended to 151 with rad removed no scratchers and if i ride the hard pack (i try not to) temp goes to 195 in powder 120-130 if you run any hard pack i would leave the rad in and plumb the system in series as one big loop i hear this works better for trail riding

Either one or any of the other brands will work. I don't have any wheels at all on my skid with scratchers and at 1600 miles there was no measurable wear on the slides. I run the scratchers down at all times on trails unless there is an inch or two of snow and sometimes then too.
