swapping my 144 to a 151, have some Q's..

Is there anything I need to do other than change the track and add an extension? Will a 151 fit under the 144 tunnel or do I have to extend the tunnel as well? is the clutching going to work as is? what do I need to know?

thx.

yes it will all fit under...get the tunnel extension from your dealer should be about $50.00...then slap her in and ride...will have to change some clutching to make it right...also make sure your rail tips dont hit your drivers...if so you will have to do a railectomy.. :)

I just completed the same project here is what i found! You will need the rail extensions, Track and the Tunnel extension as well as new hyfax. The track will not fit without the tunnel extension, you will have contact when the suspension compresses. You can purchase the Ski Doo extension for about 35.00 and will need to fill in a gap behind the cooler (the 151 has a longer cooler) or you can purchase a tunnel extension from SLP they have the right extension for this application (no gap after you are done) but they are 3 times the cost of the Doo part. Grind off the rivets DO NOT TRY TO DRILL waste of time!!! much quicker to grind off the head and punch out, when you are done you can cut a piece off the old extension and use that to fill in the gap from the Doo extension. Good luck take your time it is a 5-6 hour job when you are all done it looks factory and works great all you will need after that is new 151 stickers!!!!!! By the way my clutching and gearing was still spot on.

My track was toast already so i had to do a change anyhow and it was only 90.00 more to go for the extra length 144 to 151 between track and extensions (Package Deal) also that equates to 56" more sq inches on the ground with the 16" wide track that is about the same as you standing on the snow with both feet! That can be a big differance when it comes down to that last couple feet of climb or float........

144-159 swap

Can you take a rev 144 to a 159 track. I am thinking you will have to buy new rails not just rail extensions. Has anyone done this swap before?

Yes you can do that 144 to 159 with extensions, it is the same as doing a 121 to 136 which i have also done and it works great. I ride very agressivley, jumping, tail stands, and rough trail on the 136 and have had no problems at all, but then i found the west..............................

thanks guys. I found some good deals on some used tracks and the ext. kits are pretty cheap. i def. dont want anything longer then mid 150's so a 151 would be fine and better than the 144 which I dont have any prob. with, just that my sled is going to be seeing deeper snow than im used to, so I fugure a little more track would def. help.

Sould be easy but what kind of machine is it and what year!!!

Try Tracks USA for the rail extensions. They interlock into the old axle hole for strength, and extend the sliders to the correct length, instead of just hanging the axle off the back. I stretched my 04X from a 151 to a 162 with these and the SLP extension. I am very happy with the results.
