swapping gas tanks

I'm thinking of putting a clear tank on my sled. Gauge busted on my stock one and I'm tired of guesstimating how much gas I have. Good or bad idea?
Any tricks to removing the gas tank and installing a new one? Besides turning off the gas :face-icon-small-sho. Thanks

Clear Tanks

I swapped to clear Tanks on my two Edge RMK's and Edge XC.

I know that when I installed a new seat cover on my 2000 XC it was part of the tank.

Do you have the newer style tank/seat that are separate from each other?

I upgraded to the 5/16" fuel line on all my big blocks. You can get the hose pick up assembly from most snowmobile slavage yards and get a new rubber seal from Polaris.

You can block off the old 90 degree fitting with a bolt/nut and some large rubber washers from the plumbing dept.

While I like the idea of a clear tank, light is hard on fuel if exposed to it for a length of time. Just something to consider... JMO Good luck

How about buying a clear tank and painting it black except for the bottom 2 or 3 inches? That should take care of the light problem and would allow me to see if the gas is low at the same time. What do you think?
