Ok, Here's the question.

How many of you guys think specifically about posting in the swapmeet when you have a part (small or large) for sale for our sleds?

I know as a moderator (and to a small degree personally), I don't like seeing a bunch of "For Sale" threads in the 900 forum as that is not the purpose of this forum. However, on a personal level I can definitely understand wanting to have them posted here because this is where most of us spend the majority of our time posting about these sleds, so the 'exposure' for the part would likely be much higher here.

Here's something I want to propose....

I have not discussed this with anyone up the chain yet, and I don't really plan to as these being 2 year sleds, I think we need a little special consideration.

That being said, Everyone needs to use one of the swapmeet's to list the parts they have OR need, rather than just listing them in the forum as many have done lately...

Here's my compromise:

I am willing to create a sticky thread in this forum that you may use to post a BRIEF description and a LINK to your ACTUAL SWAPMEET AD so that those of us who do not need parts do not have to wade through a bunch of "For Sale" threads.

EDITORIAL NOTE: I've been moving quite a few threads to the swapmeet in the last couple months to try to keep things clean for the rest of us, and some I have left alone for some reason or another. By all rights, every single one should have been moved so if yours never was, consider yourself lucky.

So, should this be done, or should I keep moving your "For Sale" threads to the proper forum??? You tell me:beer;:beer;

I think they should be moved to the swapmeet and maybe break that down in to make & model. ?? This site should be left to info. for building 900's.
Just my 2 cents.

As far as the layout of the swapmeet itself goes, there has been a LOT of heartache over what the ideal swapmeet would look like, That's why we never locked the "old" one when the new one came online a couple months ago. it is still a gray area.

How bout each section has its own swapmeet area? When I am looking for polaris 900 parts I go to that forum and click swapmeet showing only parts for poo 900s?

That is something I could pass up the chain for further consideration if there are more comments on this.

The only problem I see with that is that you still need a generic section for the interchangable parts... aftmkt skis, tracks, etc.....

I agree on the swap meet. However I would hate to miss a deal on 900 parts wading through the bulk of items that really dont apply to the 900's. I recently did a garage sale ad that has alot of parts on one ad. I posted a link to it here just so peeps with 9's were aware but didnt think it was fair to post the actual ad for the parts in 900 section. IF a guy has one part for sale i think its a no brainer to keep it in the sale barn. If you have say a new chaincase made of aluminum for sale like Polz did I want to know bout it in the 900 forum as well as swap. So as you can see it almost has to be a case by case basis. But the link thing tends to work IMO and is not offensive, it gets its awareness and yet doesnt clutter the main page. After all we dont exactly have a flood of new topics lately in any of the threads. But would hate to see a nothing but for sale too.

AGREED^

Perfect example. What I'm talking about doing is creating a single thread that people can post a link in with a short description.. As opposed to everyone posting new threads with links in. It's hard for me to be fair and move one guys thread to the swap when I leave someone elses alone because it has a link in it, they both still show up on the main 900 forum as a For Sale thread, regardless of their content.

Self made products like the Chaincase cover, rider select delete, and FBF throttle cable, I have been leaving alone because they are forum member made products and in my eyes a little bit different than used 'take off' parts for sale, or large manufacturer promotions. As you say, there are many case by case threads and products that need special consideration, however, I still want to be fair to the rest of the 900 club, that is why I have brought this topic up, I want everyone to be a little bit more understanding of why I make the decisions I do about which products get moved, and which I have not moved.

Some comments above in red.

Thanks for the responses everyone, looks like we have a very healthy exchange going on in here, lets keep it going.:beer;:beer;

I say leave the member made parts and yeah it is a hassle looking through every polaris ever made to find parts. So maybe a breakdown that duplicates the forum breakdown per year/model. Would make it quick and easy especially for us 900 guys...(really short lists)

Great work Seth..glad to see your so much into improving the forum..we need more guys like you..

i like the idea of the 900 for sale link..but it does overwhelm the main page with stiky's..

And then if you did have a for sale thread..it could go one forever with tons of replies and then things would end up getting mixed up, stuff that has sold in the swapmeet would not get deleted in the for sale thread..you would have sift throug lots of thread to find one thing since it would jump around between seller/buyers for different items..

i personally HATE the new swapmeet layout...i much prefer the old one myself..

i am game either way..if it helps the 755/900 guys..then i vote majority..

not much help from me, just an input..

thanks again for being so pro-active Seth..your the man!

I've removed a couple the last couple days for that very reason, took us from 6 down to 4... :D

Very good concern :beer; Something I hadn't put in my posts yet. My plan to address that was to have ZERO replies to any of the specific posts in the thread, ONLY Link posts which the seller would delete when the part(s) is sold or I would delete after a period of say 30 days had passed.

I just sold my old 440 last weekend from the ad I had in the NEW swapmeet:beer;

All input is valuable to me on this little idea I have going

thanks again for being so pro-active Seth..your the man!

You're very welcome, all I want is to make our little section of the forum better based on THE USERS feedback.

.

Thanks for the input Sean, a few replies above in red once again:D:beer;

This is a good idea. I like it. The swapmeet can be a little overwhelming. I for one am guilty of this. I've seen a few posts for sale on the 900 page and thought, that's not right. Then I turn around and do the same thing??? Sorry about that, it just gets washed out in the swap meet, the 900 guys are the ones that need 900 parts. I think sifting through stuff for sale, is not the way either. If there is a link to 900 parts for sale on the 900 page, that is cool. and user friendly. Heck, I would even look at it daily just to see what's up there for kicks. These things always need parts right? Keep up the good work guys!!:face-icon-small-hap

First of all thanks !:beer;I appreciate the consideration. I run adds in the regular swap / Ebay and get nothing. Most of my sales come from all of you guys promoting them for me :beer;s for all of you

I am certainly biased on this topic to be certain .The few adds/ threads i start are pretty few and not really a factor in the larger picture but this is just my opinion .

how about I /we set up a thred under one of the current "how to "or "useful"links stickys we have ?

Whatever is decided I will abide by whatever rules that are created This is the best place for 900s anywhere and I am proud to be a small part of it !

Swap meet. End of story.
I did not know skibreeze speaks for all of us that Post and read Posts in the 900 Forum?:confused:
I think its more then Ok to post polaris 900 parts and sleds for sale in the 900 forum. Why not? its not like there is an over load of posts in here.

I don't speak for all of you. If you would have bothered to look at the poll, others agree. I think all the stickys are a pita. I think that admin simply needs to get the swap set up for everybody and if you want a 900 part you should be able to look up the tags for it.

When you wrote "END OF STORY" you sure did try to speak for all of us. You can’t take that back, you wrote it! I did look at the poll so don’t tell me what I did or didn’t do! I just want People to know I feel it’s more than Ok to post 900 parts and sleds for sale in here.
Tell me why it’s Not OK!!!! I’m getting thank you PMs for standing up for this idea. So you must not be speaking for them either. Like I wrote before, the 900 page is not over loaded with post. Leave people alone when they post 900 parts. It’s not like guys are posting their trucks for sale in here. This forum is meant for fun not controlling others AND PS the search engine is not very EZ to run on here and it’s hard to find things I’m looking for without looking at 100 other things I don’t want.
