Swap a Duramax into a Ford SD?

I am thinking about swapping a Duramax into my '99 Ford. I know a Cummins would probably be easier, but I want to be different and am really impressed by my buddies Duramax. I know several places that do Cummins conversions and sell kits. Anybody have any idea how hard it would be to swap a Duramax in a Super Duty? I have tried several google searches and came up empty. Maybe it has never been done.

Why not just swap the D50 or D60 from your 99 ford into a newer Duramax truck and save yourself the time, money, headache, etc? :)

if you got the green anything is possible. i'd say go for it if for nothin else to be different. you'd think it would be easier to do the v8 swap into a v8 truck other than all the little things like electronics, fuel and tranny and such. but the cummins swaps have been done for along time so theres alot more knowledge about them and thus it would probably be simpler.

id go with the cummins anyway.... there are many reasons you see these swaps and not the one you are talking about. sometime being different isn't all that it's cracked up to be. but its your party!!!

If you are mechanicly inclined and willing to fabricate a few things sure its possible. I would suggest buying a wrecked duramax..nice rollover that is wadded into a ball but still will run. I have seen duramax motors put into 65 chevy pickups so I dont know why you cant goto a 99.

There is also a Mustang, S10 & a mid 80's Buick Regal with Dmax engines running around. So, with time and $$, anything is possible.

Not a bad idea. The duramax engine is by far the best. As far as the the 03 & newer cumins engine they are a piece of sh**! We replace them all the time with broken pistons, bent valves, bent rods & that is around 100,000miles. Contact PPE they specialize in Duramax engines. My opinion is an 06 or 07 & use the allison 6000 that is attached to it & throw your 4R100/E4RD away its about as us full as the cumins!!!

not sure about the junk cummins statement. i think the guys that put the most miles per year on a diesel have either a cat or a cummins, definatly not a duramax.

d max owner here.....former cummins owner too. I like the heck out of my dmax, but I don't trust it half as much as I did my cummins. I have a feeling you misstyped some numbers, since the allison 6000 is a huge offroad transmission I think you might have meant allison 1000 and the cummins are cracking pistons at 1,000,000 miles.......just off on a couple numbers:beer;

lol right.. bent valves and rods? thats a new one. :rolleyes:

Im sure you could do the swap, but the electronics might be a major PITA with the Dmax.
