Sw Washington Sno Parks Closed

Mrs. Snowshark says:

$150.00 in deisel and premium
$50.00 for day care
$10.00 for breakfast
$400.00 in a lost vacation day

Driving for 2 hours to Lone Butte Snopark only to be told it was closed once you get get there, waiting for 3 hours (you could have been sledding) while the road crew plows Curley Creek Road to the 90 so they can put up "Road Closed" signs. Picking your (throttle junkie) 5 year old daughter up at day care only to hear her tell you "good, you should have taken me." Priceless.

WE HAVE TO MAKE SOME NOISE! ANYONE ON BOARD?

CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE.

WE CAN RIDE WITHOUT THE ROADS BEING PLOWED. JUST GIVE US A PLACE TO PARK!

We just received some information from a local club. The road crew is (as they told us) recommending all plowing stop for the remainder of the season. They also informed us that we would be ticketed for riding on the unplowed road.

THIS IS BS....i wanna hit the powder

AND your completely right, we just need a place to park... why is that so bad?

i dont wanna slettle for fiding gravel roads to ride.. i want to boondock on Mt St Helens:eek:

sweet!!!! the ones i use arent closed yet

HUH? I don't wanna sound like a biotch, but just because your areas aren't closed now doesn't mean they won't be tomorrow. Take a minute, help our fellow sledders out, and write a letter suggesting that they allow sledders to ride on the road. It doesn't seem to me it's a safety issue, but more of a control issue.........

So, the way I read that site is that things are closed due to TO MUCH SNOW, they can't keep up. RIGHT? Not closed PERMANENTLY, right?

I'd like a place to park as well... but if they can't keep the main INTERSTATES open then why should we expect our snowparks to be plowed?

Exactly the way I read it Brandy.

For some reason I think that the sno-parks are on a lower priority list than the main roads.

I am going to make some phone calls before I go park on I-90 trying to get to Cle Elum to plow my driveway for about the 30th time this winter. Wish I could snowmobile, but it seems that plowing is my number one thing this winter.

I have received some emails that indicate that all of the sno-park and grooming money is gone for the year statewide in WA. If so, this is not a local issue and I don't really know what we can do about it. But I am looking into the FACTS before I make too many statements of opinion regarding this issue.

I believe the Governor would have to approve appropriations from the General Fund. Or, like many other St. agencies the groomer program can operate at a deficit in this high frequency snow year.

The info on the website said plowing has only been suspended. Is there something else going on the behind the scenes that indicates they won't be plowing the rest of the year??

I know that some cities/towns here in Oregon are having plows bought in from other cities throughout the state to help them keep on top of the snow. There is more snow than the current equipment/personnel inventory can manage - statewide!

Look forward to hearing more about what you find out CE Sledhead.

If this turns out to be true, then I think that they should lift the restrictions for riding on unplowed roads. BUT, if they do NOT, then they should definitely start plowing again....because they will have a new revenue source. LMAO!!

If the road is covered in snow....ride!

I believe when you license your sleds in Washington, they give you a small brochure with all the "RCW's" that apply. It clearly states that if a road is covered in snow and closed to vehicular traffic; it is open to snomobilers! Just park in front of the sign and go! I have before and will again. (Although one time they "un-closed" the road and plowed it after we took off...had to ride compact snow/ice and pavement for about 7 miles to get back). Anyway, the disclaimer says something about "unless it is closed to all access by the governing body", which would be the U.S.F.S in most of the cases around SW Washington. We did it in the hills around Longview a few years back after put up the barriers and closed the roads.

Just my .01 (adjusted to the current rate of inflation + fuel prices).
