bivy sacks are awesome, way better than a space blanket.
for fire starter is use a combination of things.

take a cardboard empty egg crate. cut the top off and throw away. Fill the egg slots with cotton dryer lint. Melt some paraffin wax(used for canning) and pour over the egg crate with the cotton dryer lint. Cut into indvidual pieces.

This is the best fire starter i ahve ever came accross. One flick of a bic and you have fire for 5 minutes. I have even tried them in the rain on a wet sidewalk and still burned for 5 minutes. They work good as a stand alone fire also for a quick warm up.

zip ties are also important. A game saw never leaves my jacket pocket.

Packs

All good stuff boys. One other thing yo might need to go along with all your stuff is AVALANCHE CLASS with MIKE DUFFY!!!!!!!!You can have all the stuff but if you dont know what the #### your doing you put yourself plus the people your riding with in harms way.Just a good idea.

Best fire starter/ signal

Grandpa matches!!! ie: ROAD FLARES purchase in a 3 pack from an auto supply store. small light weight and super easy to get going. take the cap off strike it on the top and you have instant 15minute flame. We've used these for years to start campfires in winter, you can damn near just throw them on top off the snow grab some kindling and the flare burns so hot it will dry out your kindling and get a good fire going. then you have 2 more for when you hear the rescue crew you can strike one up and give them a guiding light to get you out.

All great stuff, anyone have a overnight story-and what items where the best and ones not so great?
