Surprise RT Electrical Help

Well guys it has been a tough year. A broken ankle broken cases and finally got a new motor in and within first 40 miles electrical probs. I went off a small cornice and when I landed sled died. No power main fuse at battery was blown and popped new one instantly without sled running.Any help we still have some snow here in central oregon.

Thanx JB

check the battery voltage for 12.8 - 13v. you may have killed a cell in the battery on that jump. change your electric relays as well. NAPA part #AR201 I hate electrical problems

You might want to go back through the wiring harness connection (s) since the motor was out and reconnect as well as apply a small amount of Die-Electric between the connection points.

Another thing you might want to inspect is the fuse box compartment as well as the harness at the box itself . It sit's directly above the pipe on the RT. ....On our RT the bottom of the fuse box compartment has melted some. You might consider putting heat tape to help deflect the heat from the fuse box compartment since it sits directly above alot of heat.

OT

Thanks guys.

Battery said 12.65 on the meter. Will try your ideas next. It is original battery probably time for a new one, where is the best place to buy? Thanks for the help. OT I just helped a friend move out to Cody and he will be riding out there next year. He is a good rider and will need some advice on where to go.
Thanks again. JB

It's ugly, but the harness under the motor is tight from what I'v heard, and it may have got crunched on your landing and caused a short,,, I'd try and Ohm meter (from bat to gnd) and then wiggle the harness at different points and see if you can make the reading change (hopefully the resistance goes up (above a very low reading for a short), such that the fuse will hold at normal,, Then isolate where the short is, then repair and protect and reroute,,,

And the winner is Bank Buster, thanks bud. I loosened motor mounts and lifted the motor a little bit and there was a wire between motor and frame. Time for a few more rides. Thanks again. JB

You're welcome, glad you found the problem,, I will be checking mine this fall.
"Time for more rides",,, gees, I forgot what my sled looks like.
