supertips and shockwave Questions

I have a 2008 nytro with a turbo on it, I got a supertips and a shockwave clutch kit from Dustin at Outlaw motor sports. I installed it and set it up per his instructions. For those who have this setup is there anything else I should check or watch for on this kit. I do notice that on the shockwave part that the helix may be sticking and not letting the secondary close all the way. I will put it up on the stand and run the engine, sometimes the secondary will close all the way and the belt will be at the proper heigth on the secondary, other times it will be lower like its not closing all the way. This makes me think that the shockwave part of the clutch is sticking a bit. Any ideas, thanks.
 
If you go to far on the shockwave that will happen they hang up.

It only gives you a small amount of adjust-ability don't be fooled by all the thread that you see. Roller secondarys work way better but you need to clutch the front properly--- the shockwave is like cheating and you can run the front clutch set up somewhere close and make up for it on the shock wave

So whats the answer so they wont stick, I wonder if a person should polish the surfaces up a little. :confused:

I have had a few friends that did this and it worked great for them. some of them do hang up a little. sand them with 800 grit lightly and polish them up with aluminum polish. it worked for them
 
Good wear buttons is a must or else the little hinges hang up beside the buttons --- it usually has nothing to do with the ramps or buttons.

you will loose a lot of adjust-ability as soon as the buttons wear a bit and they wear quick because the ramps are narrower than stock.

Did I say this is a poor way to make up for halve assed clutching.

so you don't like the shockwave. I am not a expert on clutching and have a lot to learn but there are alto of top notch shops using these with good results, Outlaw,powderlites,ect. what do you use and why ?
 
It is a easy way to screw with it. Everyone is messing with the set up and boost -- track etc all the time driving the mod shops nuts . I witnessed that over and over at our local dealer when they started doing turbos. The easy way out is to give them a adjustable secondary so they can be in the ballpark and mess with it themselves.

The main problem is that no one really does clutch the primary properly first and than go and set up the secondary properly. Once done you never mess with it at all.

For some reason the guys with shockwaves are always messing with them and have more trouble at the end than we do with the roller secondary.

I run 14 to 18 pounds of boost and never change a thing. At 18 lb I am on the top of the rpm range and at 14 I am right in the middle 12 LB puts me at the bottom of the rpm range . So I go from Trail-riding to drag racing with the turn of my boost controller--- that is it .

It took a bit of time to get it all dialled in perfect and it takes a good quality roller secondary to shift smooth enough to allow your front clutch to do the job with that kind of power going through them.

The rule of thumb is heavy springs and heavy weights with adjustable secondary make for rough and simple clutching that kinda works to get you running somewhere in the ballpark but nowhere near perfect.

If that is good enough fine -- I bet you any money it is not fine for the guys who are winning races.
I have used Yamaha weights with very good results but the Drag and fly weights give me way more Adjust-ability in particular on the actual shift curve. I run light weights and light springs with a Team secondary in the back. That makes for great response and ride-ability.

Just my personal views on clutching.

I don't hate any product per say just have issues when guys mess with there sled all day holding up the whole group -- messing up a good days riding for everyone.

If you sand the ramps and then polish them using a dremel with a light grit polishing bar they don't stick anymore. Never had an issue with them yet.
