I have no clue what the new recoils are like, but I expected that they would be better than the SerIII motor's. No?

Are they plastic housings too?

On the SerIII recoils, I highly recommend very little to no grease.
Yes, they come with way too much and way too thick of grease in them.

Plastic is self lubricated for the most part.

.

I have seen numerous recoils fawk up including my own....my 2018 ate one and I never used it once as it was a e start sled and one day im like hmmm I should try it, nothing...it was ground off....junk

Actually, for as long as I can remember. Always breaking in the 90s

All you youngens!~

My memory goes back to the mid 70's cuz' we rode TNT 440's and Everests in the mountains in the old days.

You'all wanna spend the WHOLE DAY trying to get up a hill we could go up on one cylinder today?

FWIW we had this issue on BJ's 17' MPI. We replaced the recoil and put a couple layers of heat tape on it. A season and a half and no issues so far..

My buddy had trouble last year in super deep snow. I was riding a stocker while waiting on my 18. He had a can on his so heat was an issue. Let it cool down and it caught again.

So your saying my memory sucks because I thought 49 comes after 48.

Got my new pawl. A little worried that it has the same part number and stampings on it as my old one. Going to double check with dealer to make sure I got the updates part before I bolt er back up.

Same issue here. Picked up my sled from the dealer back in October, maybe only started it once or twice, went to Cooke for the first ride a couple weekends ago and 5 miles down the trail shut the sled off to put up my scratchers and talk to my group. I went to pull the rope to start it and nothing... luckily my shot start worked so that didn't end the day. My left hand warmer doesn't work and it won't pull more than 7400RPMs to save its life (adjusted belt and clickers to no effect but haven't tried different weights yet). My 02 Polaris 700 edge put out more power than this pile. Been riding sleds for 20 years and this is hands down the biggest POS I've ever owned. I'm also hearing some weird clunking/grinding noise I couldn't pinpoint. I have 30 miles on it and wish I would have gone with a Cat or Polaris this year. Right now I'm into my sled right around 20K with full raptor suspension (the only good thing about the sled), can, y-pipe and other misc parts. I couldn't be more disappointed in this purchase. I haven't had a chance to get it into the dealer yet due to my work schedule but I was temped to kick it off the side of my sled deck on my dealers sidewalk when I rolled back into town that night and go get an axys or Alpha. when you write a 14800.00 check for a brand new machine you expect for sh*t to work. A couple other guys I ride with snowchecked the same machine and we are all wishing we would have gone with something else.

Campaign# 2019-0005 is what your dealer should be looking for.
Pretty sure the pawl has a new updated part#.

Make sure it's clocked correctly when you reinstall the starter. My 18 wore the pawl out in a couple of rides at it was determined that it wasn't timed correctly from the factory.

I didn't think it would matter but it did.

It was uphill both ways back then. :)

Did you tape your recoil cover up with reflective heat tape? That will fix your problem. The reason it wont pull past 7400 RPM is most likely due to the horrible stock clutching. You could say" I paid $14800 everything should be perfect!" but all these are relatively easy fixes and have been well documented on these forums since release in 2017.

I didn't think it would matter but it did.

that would not matter, there is no timing. the pawl does not spin with the motor.

This is my 5th 850 since 2017, every one has pulled correct RPM out of the box. 5-8.5K feet.

I didn't think either, but the service manual says to do it. I didn't when I replaced it, then took it off after they said to clock it. There was wear on the pawl. 1300 miles later it still work perfectly.

That makes sense, I didn't think there were multiple mount holes? Maybe they meant to "clock it" when getting it through the bulkhead as it will only go in one way?

So the part that the dealer gave me was the same part number. 636 last 3 digits as I remember. They ordered 639, Doo sent 636. The updated part, 639 is not available until the 20th. And my Freeride that was supposed to ship in November still has not. My buddy was looking for a new sled this year, this issue with a simple recoil made his final decision to turn away from Doo and buy another brand.

Doesn't matter what you buy. A few with alphas and 850 axys. You either get lucky or you don't. I always keep my iron updated too, so this doesn't happen.

Yah, agree. I like to make fun of my buds with Poos about silly little things like fuel pump parts. And now I can't start my sled, lol. Or ride my backup that is MIA.
