Summit XP Gearing?? Why So High?

Going to head West soon and I'm hearing many stories of the wrong gearing. The more I thought about it, the more I got confused as to why BRP would have used the gearing they did. I may have over looked something, but shouldn't the base (stock) gearing be the same as last year (19/45)?? It's the same engine, same primary, different secondary (but it still has to match the range of the primary) and the new 8 tooth 2.86 drivers (22.88") are just a touch larger in circumference than the 9 tooth 2.52 (22.68"). This tells me the gears should be the same as last year and even then, many were happier last year going to 19/47 gears. Then to add to my confusion, the Europe models get a 49 tooth bottom instead of a 45. There are things I don't know, like maybe the secondary is larger diameter for a lower ratio coming to the gear box and maybe the new track turns so easy that it should be able to handle a higher gear. Even then, why should the Summits be geared for 100+ MPH. Maybe someone can help, because I just don't get it???

speedo wrong? lol
or where you driving your 76 ford truck hru the deep pow? which i assume has a 400M with 4v heads on it and a fat roller cam?

but seriously, its odd that they would just release a sled thats so unready for the snow.. any info on how the MXZ are running an there other product besides mountain sleds? not that those other sleds matter anyway lol

Probably figured that the with the 50lb weight loss they could get away with higher gear ratio. Or they just had a box of old gears they needed to get rid of.

I would imagine it is the wonderful compromise that stock gives you. The M's are the same way.

If they geared it for 9K, some tool would run his WFO at 500ft and blow it up and expect a new one under warrenty.

You don't honestly expect people to be responsible for themselves do you?

I agree with the weight comment as to why they left the gearing where it was. It does make sense that if you have the same HP and a lighter sled it should be able to pull a taller gear.
And when you added HP to your machine the ultimate goal is to be able to gear the machine higher to get more track speed out of the machine. High track speed, higher highmark.

BRP is planning on smaller gears next year to loose another lb or 2.

Are the gears taller than 07?

Hugh profit potential for BRP, $150 belt!

Exactly!! It's all about the $$. Does anyone honestly think they didn't know this would happen with the combination of taller gears, bigger drivers, track that hooks up harder, less primary weight, steeper ramps and a stiffer primary spring?? SOund like a recipe for 3rd degree burns!!

The 154 comes with a 21-45, while the 163 comes with 21-49....And that the reason for the big speeds on the speedo going down trails...On the hill in the mountains the 154 and 163 benifts from 19-45.

OT

I wouldn't call 81 fast. MY 154X XP won't go over that. My '06 151X went 89 before I dropped the gearing one tooth on top. After that, it did 78. Are guys really getting into the 90's?

They are just following the Poo history and trying to sell more expensive belts! Seriously, if you can get the high speed track spin you will go higher but there is a cost to pay on this setup. Polaris found out and Doo is right behind them like normal:)

I hit 95 MPH with 21/45 in perfect conditions.
Now I have 19/45 with hot clutches.
