Summit X670 Clutch making noises?

hey guys, im having some problems with the clutch on my 670, its making a knocking noise at idle, when it shifts at high rpm, you can hear it making a wierd noise, i have no clue whats going on, please help!!!!

Your clutch needs some tlc...

When the sled is off try moving the outer half of the clutch up down. If it moves or wiggles you need to...

Take the clutch apart replace the graphite pucks (6) o rings (6) and busings in the primary. This will help with the noise.

I have found the tra to be very strong but needs maint. just like all cvt's

good luck

thanks for the good words man, i went and did as you said, and it does wiggle up and down on the outer side of it, you wouldnt happen to know the part #'s would ya?

Depending on how hard you ride your sled the clutch should be re-built every couple of seasons. If you start blowing belts one of the clutches has a problem. The Summits are hard on belts anyway, but if you keep your clutches aligned and clean you will have less problems and the belts will last longer.

You have two options.

1) Take it to a mechanic
2) Buy a manual from e-bay for $10 and a puller and take it apart yourself.

No one can give you a definative analysis based on a sound you describe let alone fix it.
Summits need not be hard on belts. I can't remember the last time I bought a belt for my 99 Summit X with an 809 installed. FWIW I run the 027 belt on my S-chassis with good results.
Good luck.

or just get a Polaris P-85 clutch built for it!!

Iv got a friend that will rebuilt a p_85 clutch top to bottom for $200 and bore it out to fit on you ski-doo!

thats what iam doing~!! These doo clutches are chit!

Does he supply the clutch for that?

NO!
I first went and asked chad at CR racing and it was going to cost $600! It already cost me $220 with him because he took the clutch apart( that i sent him) and told me it was "junk" and that we should go another way!
So he charged me $110 for taking it apart and "cleaning it"! and now i still have to pay him $110 for the milling! ( THAT I DIDNT NOT WANT DONE!)

Any ways! The guy i get all my stuff done at is a 30 year Polaris man! So iam sure he'll have a few clutches in his shop!;)

Hmm, Ive been toying with the idea of a P-85 but I got so much into this TRA allready. You got a 740, so were pretty much the same on engines. I'm barely hittin peak RPM @ 7000Ft, but over reving by 1000+RPM at 3000 Ft. Gettin tired of adusting clickers every 1000 ft LOL

I got a little more testing here, Gearing up a little and throwing some more weight in the pins. I just may not be loading the engine up enough, and not getting pipe hot enough, I dunno for sure.
