I have a 05' 1000, getting the engione rebuild this year from a seizure late in the season. I'm told to keep a close eye on the temp to eliminate this problem, especially on start-up. I've seen a small digital gauge and probe that bsiacally splits the water line and adds a small peice of pipe with the thermal probe and keeps instant tabs on water temp. Are there any other good solutions for this? Cheaper, sexier, cooler....whatever. Also, I heard about an "update" for this year; the removal of the rear heat exchanger, anyone confirm this?

Cyberdyne makes a great looking, easy to install water temperature guage. You can buy it through JC Whitney for $45. I was just looking at them tonight, as I want to do the same to my 800. As for updates to the 1000, I would recomend heading over to Dootalk and do a search. A guy named Lund has a 1000 that really works. He wrote a good post all about turning the 1000 into a reliable, and strong machine. I think he called the thread "mods to get the most out of your RT1K" or something like that. Good luck
