Summerizing Sleds

Its a bit late now but I was wondering what sort of summerizing I should have or still should do to my 900. Ive heard of emptying the gas outta the tank. Is there anything else? Its been in the shed most of the summer, but recently moved outside. Hoping to move it back in soon, I dont like it sitting in the back alley all loaded up on a trailer with just an Acura and a Dodge blocking it in!!!

Change the chain case lube, grease everything, take the drive belt off, loosen the track and support it off the ground. Gas and gas treatment is a mixed bag. If you have efi, do not drain your tank. Put an additive in it and drain it next fall and use it in more forgiving engine. If you have them outside or never run them, fog the engine. I run my sleds each month and warm them up. I also keep dumping fresh fuel in and use them as storage tanks for my lawn mower.

What about if I have a carbed sled? What is fogging the engine?

All sled shops and most auto parts stores have fogging sray. Pull the plugs and spray it in the cylinders, pull it over a few times and do it again. Then maybe some in the carbs, some guys spray the whole engine outside and wash it off before season use. Just keeps the corrosion off parts. If you store them inside and fire them up once in a while its not so important but if they are outside, particularly under a sled cover, they need this. In my opinion keeping them under a cover is one of the worst things you can do to them. I guess it beats sitting in the back yard under the shade tree but it still wrecks them pretty fast. I know some don't have any alternatives a piece of trarp over a cloths line would at least let air to circulate around them!

Ok sweet, yeah I am bringing my sled into the shed tomorrow hopefully and ill take the cover off and start er up.

What about the carb sleds, do they need the tanks emptied? That would at least provide me with a heap of gas for my moped!! lol

Moved it back inside today, took the cover off to let it air out a bit. Started it up, second pull, ran for 2 mins then shut her off again. There is only about 1/5 a tank left in it anyways, I might not bother emptying it or do you think I should? Last year a friend emptied it dry and when we went to start them up again in the winter it took over 100 pulls to get the thing going, major PITA. We thought something was wrong but we could see the fuel along with air pockets slowly pumping through the lines. It just took that many pulls to get it to the engine and for it to fire up. Tried taking the plugs out and putting a splash of fuel in the top but it would only fire for a few cycles and shut off again.

Don't empty the tank. Before the first ride next fall take out what you can and refill with fresh fuel.

Why? Gasoline doesn't degrade in just a year. All that happens is that the butane (or was it something else?) evaporates so it'll be more difficult to start.

This is what i've been told bit it might be incorrect.

summerizing

first always stabilize your fuel when you buy it stays fresher otherwise your just doing old fuel. gas good for 3 weeks. then fog it thru the carbs/throttle bodies and let it sit until fall. pump out old gas and start up.should be good to go.if you start it up every month you just add condensation to the inside of the engine crank goes bad and costs you. engine internal temp never gets hot enough to burn off moisture not like riding it does
