Summer mod / maintenance

My 9 is parked, short of a miracle... a very dry winter around here.
I know not everyone is in my position yet, but it wont be all that long now.
So, it's time to start squirreling money away and making the big summer list.
Here's what I got so far
-09 front end and some sort of bumper
-Re-wire all handlebar switches into the console... clean bars
-Get my wide Switchback front suspension off and go narrow stance
-Upgrade my running boards, haven't decided which way to go yet
-Get rid of the tunnel plastic, install gas rack and led tail light
-Maybe a RAW seat support
-Find a used pipe
I'm also toying with the idea of a big blue bottle. I want more zap and a turbo is out of my reach, and the 975 thing seems unlikely... does HTG even make them anymore?
Anyways, I'll have to fit all this in between biking trips lol:face-icon-small-con It would be so much easier if I only had one expensive habit!

Soooo... what do you guys got on the go?

Excellent thread

1. Remove crap SLP airbox and install Fire-n-Ice
2. Front bumper and skinz skid plate
3. FTX throttle block and new brake handle assembly....move switches to console and Pro-Taper bars.
4. New style, black spoke rear idlers.
5. HRP A-arms and spindles
6. Gripper skis
7. New seat w/ Raw seat support
8. 09 Plastics (if I have the $)

Wow, and I was thinking about a boat this summer too. Guess water is on hold and snow dreaming is forefront.

1. Fix my rear suspension shock mount
2. Fix my recoil rope situation
3. New Billet chaincase cover
4. New can - looking at cpi
5. New primary clutch setup - think im too light for the power
6. New Holz 41" A-arms
7. New Holz EZ steer spindles
8. New White C&A skis
9? Nitrous if i can float the funds that way:face-icon-small-hap

To do list:

1. Full wiring inspection
2. FBF throttle cable
3. Handlebar riser
4. Compfusion front mount, if the stock 06 mounts are shot
5. Armorcord pull cord

Wishlist:

Lots of snow
Timbersled Mtn. Tamer - Just watch their vid on their site. Looks AWESOME when compared to stock...
Lefty throttle
Better boards
New front bumper
New intake if the SLP one needs to go for a new front bumper

4. Ride the hell outta the quad and wait for next winter to come....

Seems as though I am short of sponsors this year so whatever I can do/afford to keep the ole 900 going........
Really should do a top end at the very least.!!!!!

Hmmmm, I've dropped over 5gs in mine this year, but there is always something to replace or improve on....

- Check capictor, and replace if needed
- Replace recoil spool
- New grips
- Toying with the idea of a new throttle block. Stock is too sloppy.
- Pull slp intake off, and install tcp air box.( this will be my favored upgrade:face-icon-small-ton)
- Maybe some blinging spindles.

Thats it. Don't wanna drop anymore coin on upgrades, cause stuff is gonna break!! Also because I don't need anymore upgrades. This thing is pimp!!

you need to invest in some sort of armor for you riding or maybe have your wife show you how to ride she doesnt seem to get hit on the trail OR hit back of cabs.

here is a GREAT reply that MH posted in the IQ section..

would be WHO of some of you guys that have not replaced the following items..

I'm a fan of replacing all the jackshaft/driveshaft/chaincase bearings every 2000 miles... especially on a turbo sled that makes double the HP of a stocker.

2 seasons... time for a new thermostat (watch that you align it correctly) and new coolant. Vacuum out ALL of the old stuff. (shop vac)

Change both primary and secondary clutch springs (wait till the beginning of the season for this)... Make damn sure that the belt side clearance is correct and the deflection is good, pull apart the primary and secondary, add 2 delrin washers under the spring cup in the secondary.

I'm a big fan of getting the primary fully brought up to spec, balanced, shimmed for the belt and all bushings replaced that are questionable.

Pull out the skid... change the Hyfax if needed, check all bearings for smooth operation, pull the pivot shafts and clean out the old grease and gunk... tighten all the bolts and make sure there is no slop in the scissor mechanism.

MAKE SURE TO USE GREASE THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE COLD WEATHER. I prefer Red Line CV -2 synthetic grease.. it keeps its viscosity even when cold... you would not believe how poorly a skid functions that has regular grease in it when it is cold out... and a suspension really does not get the chance to "warm up" much.

Switch out to the 47 degree springs that were outlined in the "big boy" spring thread on here ... regardless of your weight ( I weigh 170 with gear... I used the 47 degree .359 springs and this made the suspension better for mountain riding.

Inspect all body work rivets and replace any that are loose.

Tighten the steering hoop bolts,... grease the steering post bearing.

Replace the PTO front bolt as outlined in the forums here... I would not be surprised if it were broken already.

Set your TPS dead-on.

Check your wiring harness CAREFULLY for any chaffing.

Clean the entire under hood area.

Change out the top sprocket in the chaincase and thoroughly clean out the chain case. Inspect the tensioner block and replace if necessary.

2yrs old... replace the brake fluid.

Change the fuel filter.

Change the oil filter if you have more than 1500 miles on the sled.

Pull the tank, check the throttle body boots for cracking, clean the back side of the motor... If you have the extra $75 ... send in your injectors for cleaning and flow checking.

Lift your sled, pull the skis and pivot bolts and grease the heck out of them and the pivot spacers with quality synth grease... check the ball joints and rod ends for slop... replace as necessary...

Put the effort into careful setup of both toe in/out and camber settings... this will pay off in spades.

Make sure that the grip heater cables are not rubbed thru and that they haven't had the connections on the film messed up at the grips themselves.

Replace your grips if worn out.

Tighten your track to Factory specs when you put it back together.

Add a second pair of hood straps to protect your investment if you roll the sled

also replace your exhaust valve springs with WHITE ones from SLP...i blocked off my hoses as well, and it works well ;)

Get er Done ---

I want anti Ratchets, had to really tighten my track last year.

Possibly a Big wheel kit.

Need some Plastic 09 front end.

Clean up the handle bar wiring its a mess.

Change the VES springs to White.

Black Seat cover.
