Suggestions - Heavy Ladies Jacket

Suggestions - Heavier Jacket for the Wife

My wife can not stay warm while riding. Got her a new Klim jacket and she is freezing in it. Any suggestions on a Jacket that have thicker insulation?

more layers, and get away from Klim for your lady. my wife cannot wear klim gear for the same reasons as your wife. i love it but, it wicks too much moisture for her, and in turn makes her "feel" cold. Ski

My wife too

I had the same problem with my wife ..She uses the Katahdin Extreme Gear Team Jacket ...The team Jacket as all the Katahdin Line has a very thick outer layer ..Which is good for wind protection..We went out in NY during the polar votex at -17 ..she also uses the Klim Micro Fleece as one of the layers.which is a excellent product.. Do not let the price fool you..It is not a major brand..This jacket was designed by snowmobilers for snowmobilers from Maine.

I would focus on the layering underneath the coat versus getting a "heavy" coat. My ex was the same way, allways cold. I bought her a Klim coat, silk weight long underwear, and multiple light polar tech type shirts (nothing thick and bulky), and nice mid-weight wicking socks. I never heard another complaint about being cold, and she was still able to comfortably move around. These new light-weight layering garments are the bomb compared to old school heavy sweaters and carhartt type coats.

my mind would suggest thin layers to be the key, thin themal on skid, then thin flease, then a thin shell

however, that did not work for my wife, she loves the klim bibs but wears a 20lb huge Skidoo jacket, i swear that thing is 5" thick

she also wont wear the klim boot, big baffins are her choice

Layers, but not too tight. Dead air space is what insulates, the clothes merely create that air space.

And breakfast on riding days.
Not coffee and two bird nibbles of a gluten-free bagel, either. Breakfast!! --500 calories. I concede that's a tough topic for a lot of men to push on their women because most women are weight obsessed and don't eat...which is why they're usually always cold in the winter.

Food is fuel. Gotta stoke the furnace.

THIS! I got my wife setup in Klim gear before Christmas, she loves it and no more "I'm cold"!

What is she wearing for layers right now?

GOTTA EAT!

There's lots of options (CUTE TOO!) in the FXR line up. Something to think about is maybe good insulated pants as well? Start with keeping those big muscles (butt, quads) warm.

On the layers, fabric makes a big difference. I'm the opposite of her, I over heat so I've gone through lots of layer options to try and find one that will keep me cooler. It's been an eye opener in that 2 shirts can look alike, feel alike but the different fabric and weave can make a big difference on temp control.

For heavy ladies I'd suggest something in a slimming pattern, perhaps vertical stripes.... Hahaha.
For warmth, my wife has a Arctic cat jacket. Several years old now but it's super warm. Heavy insulated with an insulated zip out liner. Only thing that keeps her warm riding.
Another option is a Tek vest. Added protection and warm.

Ok, I've changed the title. My wife wouldn't be mad at the title, she is a tiny little thing. She would just think I'm an idiot.

Thanks for the suggestions! I purchased my wife a heavy set of Klim bibs and she really likes them. It's her upper body that is cold.

She rides with a Klim mid-layer and 2 thinner layers below that. I'll look into the jackets you guys suggested. The heated vest is a nice idea. She is a trail buster so, that could work.

my wife wears the klim climate bibs and klim jacket with her tech vest over the jacket and the various under layers depending on how cold it is.

I second this suggestion, I have their Apex mens jacket and it is very warm and made really well. I use it on those below zero days with just a base and mid-layer. I an going to get the gf one for cold days as well. I got her the womens backcountry bib and she is happy with them. Don't let the price fool you, Katahdin gear is top notch.
